Speaking with The Playlist while promoting Safe House, frequent CBM actor Ryan Reynolds talks about his next venture in the genre, R.I.P.D. - based on the Dark Horse graphic novel of the same name. Reynolds says that he 'would like' the film to have a sequel, even saying that (plot-wise) it's set up for such a sequel if the first film's successful...

"I'm hoping to be able to work with all those people again," Reynolds said. "It could be a franchise. It certainly is set up, plot-wise, for a sequel. But nobody's signed on for that just yet. We would like it to be [a film series.]"

Below is some plot info surrounding the graphic novel/film...

The Dark Horse comic R.I.P.D. is adapted by Universal Pictures with this fantasy crime film focusing on a newly deceased cop (Ryan Reynolds) who's drafted into a squad of zombie cops that battle the supernatural. Red's Robert Schwentke directs, with Jeff Bridges co-starring as his partner and Kevin Bacon playing the villain.

Do you think R.I.P.D. has potential to be another big CBM franchise? Share your thoughts below in the usual place.

The other cast members include Jeff Bridges, Kevin Bacon and Mary-Louise Parker. The film is scheduled to hit theaters June 28th, 2013.

A better idea would be to finally make the Deadpool movie after this hits. If this gets a sequel, then Deadpool just gets further delayed. All I want from Ryan Reynolds is the Deadpool movie. And it would have a lit of potential, because of how much. Reynolds lives the character, but at this rate, I'd much rather have the part recast.

Last we heard, Deadpool could begin production this year, and Reynolds says that he wants to do it right after RIPD (not sure if it's still filming or what). So I can see him doing Deadpool within the next year or so, and possibly a sequel to RIPD in 2015/2016 (if ever).

RIPD has potential to be cool, but has long as he stays committed Deadpool then I'm good.

I'M SUPER STOKED FOR THIS MOVIE!!!

Hopefully that stands out in the sea of negativity.

Reynolds (who is ace regardless of what people thought of GL), Jeff 'the mutha-fudging daddy' Bridges anyone?! Fighting the undead...And Kevin Bacon doing the villain dirty work...

Sounds [frick]in ace. Generic no doubt. But ace!

@Froggy
Not to mention Kevin Bacon, who helped breath new life into the withering husk that was the X-Men franchise. We've got two actors who played the villains in two of the best CBMs of the past ten years. I'm pretty optimistic.
