Last year, Titan Comics and Alcon Media Group
announced plans to expand upon the Blade Runner universe through various print media, including books, comics, and graphic novels. One such project is
Blade Runner 2019, a new comic book series
from Blade Runner 2049 screenwriter Michael Green and longtime collaborator Mike Johnson.
Today just so happens to be Leon Kowalski's inception date, and in celebration of the Rogue replicant's "birthday," Titan Comics has unveiled the first covers for
Blade Runner 2019, along with all-new details.
As the title suggests, the series is
set during the events of the original Blade Runner but will follow a different replicant hunter known as Ash. Here is the official synopsis:
In the polluted and rain-drenched neo-noir nightmare that is Los Angeles, 2019, the veteran Blade Runner known as Ash has a new case: a billionaire's wife and child, both apparently kidnapped by violent Replicants.
The description makes the series sound like a pretty straight forward investigative thriller. Of course, we all know the
Blade Runner franchise is anything but, so we fully expect the comic series will continue to explore the rich themes and dramatic levels of the film franchise and, hopefully, expand upon them.
Blade Runner 2019 #1 is slated to hit store shelves on July 17, 2019. Titan Comics has shared variant covers for the first issue, illustrated by Artgerm, Syd Mead, Andres Guinaldo, and John Royle.
