Collider has debuted the first of three Blade Runner 2049 shorts which will fill in the gaps between Ridley Scott's original and Denis Villeneuve's sequel.

This first one is titled "2036: Nexus Dawn", and introduces Niander Wallace (Jared Leto), who claims to have designed a "perfected" model of replicant he calls the Nexus 9. It seems the events of the first film led to replicants being outlawed in 2023, which Wallace is attempting to have repealed.

Check it out below, and keep an eye out for the next short very soon.

Thirty years after the events of the first film, a new blade runner, LAPD Officer K, unearths a long-buried secret that has the potential to plunge what’s left of society into chaos. K’s discovery leads him on a quest to find Rick Deckard, a former LAPD blade runner who has been missing for 30 years.

Blade Runner 2049 opens on October 6, 2017.

Can't freaking wait for this movie! It is my number 2 most anticipated of the year.

1. Star Wars
2. Blade Runner
3. Justice League

Very similar to the Wayland Prequel with Guy Pearce.
They should do a Prequel with those 2 guys but I don't think the time lines would sink up enough.

I'm surprised when people say Jared Leto is a sh*t actor because they didn't like his Joker. The dude can act. Writing and direction can play a big part.

@Highflyer - I personally saw some flashes of greatness when he was playing The Joker. I personally think the look they gave him distracted people from his acting. Hopefully he will return as The Joker with a new look and show us that he belongs in that role.

Other than one of the CBMs, I really hope this ends up being my favorite film of the year. I've got high hopes.

And Leto doesn't deserve the shit he gets about his acting. Anyone who says he's a bad actor obviously hasn't seen Mr. Nobody, Requiem for a Dream or Prefontaine.

Also, 30 Seconds to Mars is super successful partly because of his amazing live performances.

Don't @ me

This shows Jared Leto has so much potential to be a great Joker. Give him a great script and direction (opposite of what Ayer gave him) and he could be fantastic.
