Did you know the original 1967 Valerian comic book was an influence on Star Wars? MTV's Josh Horowitz paid a visit to the Paris set of the movie and spoke with stars Dane DeHaan, Cara Delevingne, and director Luc Besson about bringing the sci-fi world to life.

We also get our first glimpse of the character Rihanna is playing - though nobody is giving away any hints about the exact role she'll have in the story.

Valerian (Dane DeHaan) and Laureline (Cara Delevingne) are special operatives for the government of the human territories charged with maintaining order throughout the universe. Valerian has more in mind than a professional relationship with his partner- blatantly chasing after her with propositions of romance. But his extensive history with women, and her traditional values, drive Laureline to continuously rebuff him.

Under directive from their Commander (Clive Owen), Valerian and Laureline embark on a mission to the breathtaking intergalactic city of Alpha, an ever-expanding metropolis comprised of thousands of different species from all four corners of the universe. Alpha’s seventeen million inhabitants have converged over time- uniting their talents, technology and resources for the betterment of all. Unfortunately, not everyone on Alpha shares in these same objectives; in fact, unseen forces are at work, placing our race in great danger.

Valerian also stars John Goodman, Ethan Hawke, Clive Owen, Rutger Hauer and Rihanna, and is set to hit theaters on July 21, 2017.

Is this based off something? Or is it Luc Besson created? The cast is pretty damn good, minus Rihanna. Hopefully it isn't another Jupiter Ascending.

@Menks123 - It's based off an amazing french comic book series called Valerian and Laureline. It's the reason why I became a fan of Science Fiction. It's the original Guardians of the Galaxy but imagine it was just Starlord and a human Gamora...

@Menks123 - The comic artist is legendary lol like an actual pioneer. If I hadn't grown up in Quebec I probably wouldn't know much about French comics either but Euro comics got a lot of hidden gems and this is the motha of flippin diamonds!

@SaxoWolf - I honestly hope not. It inspired a lot of SciFi franchises for a reason. Til this day it is my favorite comic book series.

Cara's voice is so smooth... she has smoker's voice, love it! And the interviewer is a clone of Leonard from Big Bang Theory.

Another Jupiter Ascending type of reception incoming for sure.
Luc Besson's got a visionary eye and Fifth Element was genius, but the cast for this looks a little bit crappy c-list. And Rihanna? really?. Her performance in Battleshit was wooden as anything.
