Daisy Ridley Cryptically Responds To Query About Rey Turning To The Dark Side In STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI

Of all the mysteries surrounding Star Wars: The Last Jedi, it is perhaps Rey's fate that has most fans speculating. Will Rey turn to the Dark Side?

Actress Daisy Ridley appeared on Good Morning America today and was asked that precise question. Obviously not looking to spoil what could be a major moment in the film, Ridley responded with a cryptic answer that leaves us with even more desire to know the truth.

"I think the thing about this film is it's not so... the lines are less clear as to, like, good and bad," Ridley answered coyly. "Rey's trying to find out about herself and about the universe, and those questions don't entirely fall to the good, nor do they entirely fall to the bad."

"She's trying to do her own sort of personal growth and I think what's amazing is that the end of the film - however that does end - it's more rich. If it's always good, the outcome isn't as important as it might be if..." she teased before trailing off.

Despite not giving away the answer, it certainly sounds as if Rey will have her moments where she struggles with the Dark Side of the Force. The trailers have certainly alluded to it, as have marketing materials that bleed with an ominous red color scheme.

Ridley isn't the only one who has been asked about her character turning to the Dark Side. In an interview with ABC News earlier this year, Mark Hamill was asked if his character, Luke Skywalker, would ever turn. He responded, "It's possible, anything's possible."

We'll find out soon enough as Star Wars: The Last Jedi hits theaters December 15.

What if Luke is going over the edge, and Rey brings him back? We've seen it before with Luke and Vader, but Luke's not quite turned yet. Could be more emotional seeing Rey save him BEFORE he follows in his father's footsteps.

I know this is off topic but while I read this I started to wonder which, if any, Force ghosts or voices Luke might communicate with in The Last Jedi. Since he didn’t but have any dialogue in TFA I’m not counting that one but it’s something Luke did in the other three.

@cbostont102 - I've been screaming for a Jedi communion since I left The Force Awakens. Force ghost Qui-Gon, Force Ghost Obi-wan, Force ghost Yoda, and even Force ghost Anakin. I want them all sitting legs crossed around a fire with Luke, discussing the plight of the galaxy and Rey's training.

@obarium - this Island Luke is on looks like a good place to make that happen!

We get it already.

You are trying to say everyone is 'grey' which is going to be the focal point of Episode 8. No more Jedi because going to one extreme or the other disturbs the balance of the force.

Hopefully she doesn't turn into a grey jedi. Grey jedis don't exist.
If you don't know what I'm talking about, play Knights of the Old Republic 2.

@Melkac - Although I suppose saying they "can't" exist is more accurate.

I think it'd be quite an interesting twist if Rey turned to the dark side and Kylo turned to the light.

It's interesting that Kylo is actually struggling to stay on the darkside. He even says it in The Force Awakens when he's talking to Darth Vader's helmet "forgive me grandfather. I feel it again, the call to the light".

Rian Johnson and some of the cast have said that this movie does things to some of the characters that you wouldn't expect from a Star Wars story so to perhaps flipping who we expect to be good and bad could be a cool thing to watch play out.

What's weird about star wars, is that it is heavily influenced by eastern religions, especially daoism, but in daoism they specifically say good and evil are relative. There is no dark side of the dao, or light side of the dao, just the dao.

I think this new stuff falls more in line with the original inspiration for the force, and that's super cool.

yes there is yin and yang, but both have bits of each other inside of them.

this completely misses the point. If anything, the light side would actually be the dark side of the sign, because darkness is passive, and light is aggressive. It sort of blurs together. you get where I'm going with this.

@BloodyBed - “original inspiration of the force” So Midichlorians conformed then? Lol

@cbostont102 - that was such an odd decision. It's like george thought "you know what, [frick] that mystical religion stuff, people want science!"
