I have a better list...

STAR WARS: 3 Sequel Mistakes Fans Will NEVER Be Able To Forgive Lucasfilm For Making

1. Star Wars: The Force Awakens

Caveat - Although actually a solid movie, this was still was unnecessary and amounted ot nothing

2. Star Wars: The Last Jedi

3. Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker

@CaptainDC - If TFA is a solid movie, it's because it's a blatant rip off of a solid movie. It's really just A New Hope all over again.
Fogs
Fogs - 6/21/2022, 2:52 PM
@Shroombeast - It is. But I try to be forgiving and think of the circumstances: people were very pissed with the prequels and it was an attempt of bringing some classic SW back - IMHO it did.

Just really didn't need the Starkiller [frick]in Base, sigh.

Plus - and that's a big plus to me - The new characters are likeable - I really wanted to know what would happen to Rey, Finn, Poe and specially Kylo in the next film.

Oh, the possibilities...

It’s not just Star Wars this is happening to but all big franchises.
Jurassic park, Star Trek, Aliens, terminator, Lotr, etc

They don’t respect the past and rules set by the creators, force focus on new “better” characters, and worst of all don’t have set plans for these trilogies or reboots other than to throw whatever they can at it and hope something sticks.

Seriously Hollywood stop ruining old franchises.

Yeah, I know it's one in a million.

At least we don't have a new BTTF (but they want to)

@Fogs - I still need to see it very very badly. But you also have to admit while the og was a big hit it wasn’t a “franchise”. At least Hollywood proved it can make a good sequel once in a great moon.
Fogs
Fogs - 6/21/2022, 3:46 PM
@TheFireForce - Yeah, definitely not a Star Wars but that's it. A relief to see some sequels like this, or even full reboots (mad max fury road) that don't suck.

EZBeast - 6/21/2022, 4:04 PM
@Fogs - I legit just rewatched fury road and it’s still [frick]ing great

Not putting the trio on screen for one more time, especially when other franchise finales did reunions better.

I'm going to go ahead and get ready for a bunch of you to hate me by saying I enjoy all 3 movies as standalones, but if they are supposed to be one big story then man...
bkmeijer1
bkmeijer1 - 6/21/2022, 6:02 PM
@MCUKnight11 - I agree about 50%.

To me each one feels like a sequel. A sequel to a movie that doesn't exist, and never truly feel standalone because of that. It invents a bunch of new stuff and takes over very little from it's predecessor.

I guess that makes it also standalone though, as it doesn't require us to have watch the movie before it.

just say the top 3 things and mention all 3 movie names.

Honestly, I can forgive them for everything as I think there is still interesting story to be build of these elements. A creative enough writer can do magic.

Only 5 though, that is something unforgivable.
MrDandy
MrDandy - 6/21/2022, 2:46 PM
I can’t disagree with any of these but I’d put at #1- basically remaking the story of the OT….but worse.

Honestly I’ve never seen a trilogy hate itself as much as the sequel trilogy. Every movie is doing everything in its power to backtrack, subvert, or undercut the previous film.
bkmeijer1
bkmeijer1 - 6/21/2022, 6:04 PM
@MrDandy - exactly. It's just anti-'what came before'.

That's not a bad thing per se, but it becomes a glaring issue if it's done three movies in a row.

I think I enjoyed the hype of the force awakens more than the actual movie cause the feeling of that was special in a way that I don't even think Endgame could recapture. I mean, do you think we'll ever see a 900 mil domestic box office run again?
dracula
dracula - 6/21/2022, 2:51 PM
Lucas’s sequel trilogy probably would have been divisive but at least it would have been original

@McMurdo - yeah I ducked up. I was talking about Josh’s reviews for the sequels… My bad
