STAR WARS: Early Kylo Ren Concept Art Presents A VERY Different Take On The Villain

Some early concept art for Kylo Ren has now surfaced online, and it gives us a very different take on the masked villain we were first introduced to in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Take a look...

Adam Driver's Kylo Ren was introduced in Star Wars: The Force Awakens as a powerful and mysterious villain, but we found out as the movie progressed that he was a normal looking young man beneath the mask, and only covered his face in tribute to his legendary Sith grandfather, Darth Vader.

Well, some new concept art for the character has now been shared on Instagram by Christian Alzmann, and it's clear that Kylo was originally envisioned as a far more monstrous-looking creation.

If this alternate take on Ren may look familiar, it's because it was eventually used as inspiration for the Fifth Brother on the Star Wars Rebels animated series.

Kylo did pick up a scar at the end of The Force Awakens and is set to once again don the helmet in The Rise of Skywalker later this year, but it's hard to imagine him going full Vader in that movie... unless he winds up sharing his grandfather's fiery fate, that is.

What do you guys think of this early design for Kylo Ren?

@DaHyro - Yep. Easily the most compelling character in the new films too, so much pathos and nuance to him. Helps that Adam Driver is so damn good in the role, dude's got a bright career ahead of him.

He's really worried about protecting his nipples.

Pretty cool. Just finished binging the Boys. What a great show. Sets the bar pretty high honestly for other superhero shows. Up there with the finest Daredevil moments. It did 'dark' much more appropriately than Titans and it handled its budget restrictions more smoothly than CW shows, though I'm sure the Boys may have had some more money. Writing, acting, just leaps and bounds ahead though. Can't wait for Season 2. I was surprised, I couldn't make it through Rogen and Goldberg's Preacher.

I like Kylo... him being an emotional tantrum baby actually works for the character and making him different. His helmet design was always less than great, though.

That might have been really cool, though they probably thought it would be distracting. But the writing is so piss poor they probably should've went with it.

Seems he could be disfigured here.

Maybe he got into self mutilation to parallel his grandfather Darth Vader; maybe knowing he too was disfigured and scarred. His admiration for old Vader runs deep.
