Who Has Responded To the Possibility Of Directing It? Colin Trevorrow Is Rumored To Direct STAR WARS: EPISODE VII Recently Trevorrow has been rumored to direct the new trilogy. On the podcast
Filmmixern.se, Trevorrow is questioned about the rumors. He refuses to talk in detail about the rumors, but goes on to talk about how he's a Star Wars fan and is as excited about the new movie as others
"I have very little to say about it," says Trevorrow. "Certainly, no specifics about what's going on behind the scenes in the selection of that person [a director]. I think that I can speak as a Star Wars fan, which is important to me. Whoever does do this movie, I think, just needs to have a fundamental understanding of why it's important to us. We come from a generation who grew up with this as children, to us it's almost a belief system. It's harder for people who are older or who were already teenagers when the movie came out to understand how deeply it is our mythology. And there are a bunch of incredible directors who are up for this job… I think whoever gets it will have that fundamental understanding of why Star Wars matters so much to a billion people. It's just incredible. So that’s all I can say about that. I’m equally excited about it. … that’s all you’re gonna get!"
Guillermo Del Toro Says No Recently Del Toro was speaking with
Fanhattan Blog, and was asked about the possibility of directing
Star Wars: Episode VII. He says that helming a Star Wars film is something he doesn't think about and hasn’t been approached.
"You know, I saw it on the Internet, but I haven’t approached them, they haven’t formally approached me. I mean, I heard some rumblings, but to me it’s really — I have so many projects to discuss or think about. [For] something that is not a possibility yet, I don’t do that. You know, because I have so many things that I need to catch up with. If this becomes ever a reality, and there’s an approach to do it, I would then think about it, but — it’s like thinking if I want to date a supermodel. I don’t think about these things."
Jon Favreau Is Open To Directing The New STAR WARS We haven’t had a lot of people who has shown interest in directing the new Star Wars but Jon Favreau is open to the idea of directing it.
"I think both J.J. and I come from a generation of people who formed our whole creative persona around what we experienced as kids from watching those films, and I have had the good fortune of working with George [Lucas] and around George, and whether it is doing a voice on Clone Wars, or being at the Skywalker Ranch mixing Iron Man – so I have been very happy and lucky to just experience the culture that Lucas has created, both in my own life growing up as a kid and professional – whether it was interviewing him at film festivals on stage, he is just a really wonderful, talented gifted guy who has changed the business so much, so I am just giddy, first and foremost as a fan, to see what happens with it. I think there is a lot of question marks of how they are going to do it, and who they are going to do it with, and what the story is going to be about; but to say that I am not excited about it is definitely an understatement. We’ll see."
J.J. Abrams Says No A strong fan favorite, J.J. Abrams was asked by
Hollywood Life if he would direct the new Star Wars films. Abrams said no that it was more likely he will see the films as a fan then direct them.
"Look, Star Wars is one of my favorite movies of all time," said Abrams. "I frankly feel that – I almost feel that, in a weird way, the opportunity for whomever it is to direct that movie, it comes with the burden of being that kind of iconic movie and series. I was never a big Star Trek fan growing up, so for me, working on Star Trek didn’t have any of that, you know, almost fatal sacrilege, and so, I am looking forward more then anyone to the next iterations of Star Wars, but I believe I will be going as a paying moviegoer!"
Matthew Vaughn Is Rumored To Direct STAR WARS EPISODE 7 Collider reported that Matthew Vaughn is rumored to direct the upcoming movie.
I’m hearing that Matthew Vaughn, the director of Kick-Ass, Stardust, Layer Cake, and X-Men: First Class, is in talks with Lucasfilm to helm Star Wars: Episode VII. My sources tell me this is the main reason he dropped out of the X-Men sequel (which Bryan Singer is now directing).
Quentin Tarantino Is Not Interested In Directing STAR WARS Entertainment Weekly asked Tarantino if he was interested in directing the new Star Wars and he shot it down.
I could so care less. No, sorry. Especially if Disney’s going to do it. I’m not interested in the Simon West version of Star Wars.
Steven Spielberg Said No Recently Spielberg was asked if he would direct the new Star Wars films. He said no mostly out of respect for George.
"I've asked [Lucas]. He won't let me do one. I wanted to do one 15 years ago, and he didn't want me to do it. I understand why - Star Wars is George's baby. It's his cottage industry and it's his fingerprints. He knows I've got Jurassic Park and Raiders. But George has Star Wars and I don't think he feels inclined to share any of it with me. No! No! It’s not my genre. It’s my best friend George’s genre.”
Zack Snyder Said No Zack was recently asked by the LA Times if he would direct the new Star Wars trilogy. Zack said he isn’t interested in directing it.
“I don’t think I’d be interested in directing it. I’m a huge ‘Star Wars’ fanatic. I just think doing episodes seven, eight and nine is just a slippery slope. It’s a whole other mythological experiment I’m excited to see, but it’s a lot of effort.”
Who Will Be Writing The New Trilogy? Michael Arndt Will Write The New STAR WARS Trilogy It has been reported that the Academy Award winning writer Michael Arndt, who worked on
Little Miss Sunshine and Pixar's
Toy Story 3 will write the new Star Wars trilogy. Ardnt has written a 40 to 50 page treatment for
Star Wars: Episode VII, and will likely pen a draft. Sources tell the site that the studio wants to bring back the original Star Wars trilogy's three protagonists: Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill), Princess Leia (Carrie Fisher) and Han Solo (Harrison Ford). While no deals are in place for the original actors to return, there are reportedly "high ambitions" to sign Hamill; and recently, Ford and Fisher expressed interest in reprising their roles.
If you want my opinion, I think this is a great pick and here’s why. The last
Toy Story movie before 3 came out in 99.
Toy Story 3 came out in 2010. He wrote a franchise that was 11 years and made it relevant and relatable to people (like me) who grew up watching
Toy Story as a kid and made it relevant and relatable to kids nowadays. If he can do that with Star Wars, make it great for long time fans while making it easy for newer fans to get introduced then it will be great.
Who Will Star In The New STAR WARS Trilogy? No Word Yet On If Billy Dee Williams Will Returned There has been nothing on if Billy Dee Williams will return as Lando in the new trilogy. Personally I hope he does and hope Lando is in it.
Carrie Fisher Said She Would Return As Leia If She Is Offered The Role TMZ asked Carrie Fisher if she would be interested in playing Princess Leia in the new Star Wars films and Carrie had this to say.

Harrison Ford Wouldn’t Mind Playing Han Solo Once More Entertainment Weekly reported that Harrison Ford is open to playing Han Solo once again. It was reported that,

While Ford has said playing Han Solo isn’t something he enjoyed mainly because he wanted Han to die in
Return of the Jedi, the fact that he is interested in returning is great news.
Jeremy Bulloch Would Love To Return As Boba Fett In STAR WARS: EPISODE VII Unleash The Fanboy interviewed Jeremy on the possible if he would return to play Boba Fett in the upcoming Star Wars films and Bulloch had this to say.
It would be lovely to see Boba Fett back! The technology now exists to make his jet pack even more realistic and exciting. I'm sure if Boba Fett were to return they would go with someone younger, but I’m still fit and can jump around. I’d love to be involved in some way, maybe a cameo as an ageing Bounty Hunter in the corner somewhere."
Mark Hamill Will Return Mark Hamill has shown strong interest in returning as Luke Skywalker for one more good. Upon news of a new trilogy, Mark had this to say.
“I can see both sides of it. Because in a way, there was a beginning, a middle, and an end and we all lived happily ever after and that’s the way it should be — and it’s great that people have fond memories, if they do have fond memories.
“But on the other hand, there’s this ravenous desire on the part of the true believers to have more and more and more material.”
Darth Vader Is Rumored To Return From The Death Let me say that again, Vader is rumored to return. Rumored. This is something that is set in stone and will happen. After hearing about the news, fanboys screamed foul. It has been said they are thinking of including Vader in the new trilogy.
“He’s an integral part of the franchise. Replacing him is virtually impossible. The plan is for him to return and play a significant role in the new films. This is science fiction remember, Darth Vader will rise from the ashes.”
