The Tracking-Board is reporting that P.J. Byrne has joined the cast of New Line's upcoming arcade game adaptation, Rampage, which will star Dwayne Johnson (The Fate of the Furious) in the lead role. He'll portray an ethical scientist who works alongside Johnson's animal-loving hero at a wildlife park and will be the one to notice something wrong with one of the park's gorillas.
Byrne joins a cast, that in addition to Johnson, includes Academy Award-nominee Naomie Harris (Moonlight), Joe Manganiello (The Batman), Marley Shelton (Scream 4), Jake Lacy (The Office), and Breanne Hill (San Andreas) in key roles. Brad Peyton (San Andreas) is directing with a script from Ryan Engle (Non-Stop), Carlton Cuse (San Andreas), Ryan Condal (Hercules), and Adam Sztykiel (Due Date), who completed the most recent draft.
Plot details are being kept under wraps, but the film will remian relatively faithful to the classic arcade game as it will follow a monstrously transformed gorilla, crocodile, and wolf, who wreak havoc on North American cities and landmarks.
Production is expected to begin this March.
Byrne is best known for his roles in The Wolf of Wall Street, Horrible Bosses, The Game, Intelligence, Walk of Shame, It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia, and Vinyl. He currently stars on the HBO mini-series Big Little Lies.
