ALIEN: Noah Hawley Says His FX TV Series Will Be Set On Earth And Confirms It Won't Be About Ripley

Noah Hawley (Legion) has shared an update on his planned Alien TV series, confirming that while the spotlight won't be on Ripley, the plan is to bring the action to Earth. Find out more after the jump...

It's become clear that Sir Ridley Scott's plans to continue the Alien prequels that started with Prometheus have somewhat fallen by the wayside in recent years, especially now that Disney is in charge of the franchise. Legion and Fargo showrunner Noah Hawley was working on a spinoff series for FX before the Disney/Fox merger, and it was confirmed last year that it remains in development.

Talking to Vanity Fair, Hawley shared an update on the project, confirming that he's written the first two scripts and is looking to get started on shooting the series next spring.

"It's not a Ripley story," he confirmed when asked to share some details on what fans can expect. "She's one of the great characters of all time, and I think the story has been told pretty perfectly, and I don't want to mess with it. It's a story that's set on Earth also. The Alien stories are always trapped. Trapped in a prison, trapped in a spaceship. I thought it would be interesting to open it up a little bit so that the stakes of 'What happens if you can't contain it?' are more immediate."

Hawley would go on to say that the show is ultimately about "inequality," before shedding some light on his plans to better explore the people behind the Weyland Corporation (in those early Alien movies, all we really knew was that the faceless organisation was sending these people into space).

"In [my series], you're also going to see the people who are sending them. So you will see what happens when the inequality we're struggling with now isn't resolved. If we as a society can't figure out how to prop each other up and spread the wealth, then what's going to happen to us?"

It definitely sounds like we're about to take a deeper dive into this world than in previous movies, and unleashing the Xenomorphs on Earth...well, it feels about time they pay a visit, eh?

Alien is likely going to debut on FX sometime in 2022 or 2023.

..........Do you think its a good idea if FX in the show decided to have GORO be the main alien queen as he twerks violently through the OZONE layer causing a shockwave that humans would have no choice but to truly twerk harmoanusly (yes HARMOANUSLY, just like that) to try to kombat Goros cheek from TWERKILATION. It would be called, Alien: Twerkerrection......................................

All I care about is what is that crazy-ass robot David going to do with all those humans sleeping on the Covenant.

What's the point of making it if Michael Fassbinder isn't frenching himself? I mean, where's the cinema?

That actually sounds pretty interesting. Wonder if there will be atleast one bottle episode though in a Weyland lab or something like that.

Don't mind it doesn't continue Covenant, since I haven't seen it yet. I cared so little for Prometheus, that I still haven't seen Covenant.

@bkmeijer - They are barely related to each other (or something like that).
The first one was mostly a science fiction film with some horror, and the second one a horror film with some science fiction.

The androids were the only thing they had in common (it seems).

Well, plus they both took place (at times) in space, where no one can hear you scream (or play the flute).

@LSHF - sounds like I didn't miss much. Do wanna give it a try though because of Fassbender. He was great as the android in Prometheus

Sounds like he is trying to do a much better take on the outbreak in AvP:R.

I imagine an uninhabitable Earth because of natural disasters. So, somewhere in this desolate landscape, there is an old Weyland Yutani facility. An old facility that is self-sufficient and works with geothermal energy from the terrestrial core. There, a synthetic is in charge of maintenance.

Christopher Eccleston to play the synthetic.

I may be in the minority but I actually really enjoyed Covenant and would have liked to see where it went next.

However, this show sounds like a huge step up and FX is one of the best channels. I’m excited

The worlds "inequality" and "spread the wealth" are enough for me to pass on this one. Sounds like more SJW/woke bullshit. Don't need it.

I'm not thrilled at the idea of the Xenos getting loose on Earth. The whole idea behind the entire Aliens franchise is to prevent the Xenos from getting to Earth, because if they get loose and are able to start a hive then they are unstoppable.

But I love Aliens, so I'm happy for this, regardless of there being an Earth outbreak or not.
