AMC Theaters Move Reopening Date To August Despite Uncertainty Surrounding TENET Plans

AMC Theaters has announced a new reopening date for its 450 chains across the United States, while some inside information has been shared about Disney's plan for Mulan and its August 21 release date!

Warner Bros. has taken Tenet off the release schedule and, in response, AMC Theaters has shifted its reopening date from July 30 to a somewhat vague mid-to-late August. The United States's number one theater chain plans to open the doors of its 450 chains, though they haven't specified which, if any, they intend to keep closed.

The likely plan for Tenet is for it to open in certain markets in Europe and Asia where coronavirus (COVID-19) cases are on the decline. Given the current state of New York, Los Angeles, and Texas, AMC will probably hold off on reopening in cities in those states until government guidelines change. Certain cities could get to see it before others, a strange but necessary move.

"The new timing reflects currently expected release dates for much anticipated blockbusters like Warner Bros.’ Tenet and Disney’s Mulan as well as release dates for several other new movies coming to AMC’s big screens," reads a statement from AMC Theaters released earlier today.

Disney has yet to make any changes to Mulan's current August 21 release date, and Deadline confirms that there's speculation from exhibitors and studio insiders that the movie won't move.

Moviegoers visiting AMC Theaters will be required to wear face masks, and a series of safety measures have been implemented to tackle the spread of the virus. As of now, however, no one is entirely sure whether people will feel happy and safe to pack multiplexes to watch the latest releases.

These organizations look stupid everytime they have to delay the release or reopening or whatever it is. The pandemic isnt going to suddenly get a lot better within the next few weeks, duh. Rather than constantly sticking their feet in their mouths with another inevitable delay, just hold off until you can say with certainty that your proposed date will be met. Those conditions currently dont exist for AMC.

@HeavyMetal4Life -
This.

"Okay, we're opening July 30. Okay, we're opening in August now. Alright, I know what we said before but we're definitely opening in September, I promise. Okay, I swear on my mother's life we're opening in December!"

Jeesh. It's almost as if corporations care more about making money again as soon as possible more than human lives, and are only concerned that opening at the wrong moment will cause nobody to show up.

Someone had to be first. AMC is toward bankruptcy. Disney had reviews coming out for Mulan when everything closed.

A friend and I were talking about this the other day. He was saying a studio should "release one of these movies like Tenet or Mulan or Black Widow just to see if people will come, because one of them has to pull the trigger"

I said no studio will risk a $200 million movie in theaters, but if they want to test then something like New Mutants would be better, since that movie was never expected to do well anyway.

But, if Disney is pushing Mulan, guess thats the canary in the coal mine

@DannRamm113 -
People are struggling with whether to send their children back to school. Movie theaters are not a priority for the majority of Americans.

@Battabing - I don't believe they are. No matter how antsy I am I know America [frick]ed up the virus response. But, other territories are open, so movies will release sooner or later as they can't just sit on them indefinitely.

Either way, eventually movies have to release, it was a question of what studio and movie would. I'm not going to see Mulan in a theater, wasn't gonna go regardless.

My favourite cinema has been back open for two weeks now, and (until today) the Covid-19 situation in my city was really relaxed. The screenings for Fury Road, Blade Runner, and The Matrix are basically sold out with the limited capacity they have. I'd like to go to one of the emptier screenings, but I'm not sure I'll take the remaining risk for The Goonies, Wonder Woman, Dangerous Liaisons, or Dirty Harry.

The fake news media will continue to control the weak minded with their fear mongering all the way up to the election. No way theaters are allowed to reopen before then. The people who are under their control will now say it is wrong to not be under their control and wrong to say such a thing.

And in November when the fake news media stops what they are doing, they'll say it's "Time to get back to normal!". Those who will undoubtedly come at me now, fueled by the same type of mob fueled hysteria that led to the Salem Witch Burnings and belief in the Russia Collusion hoax, will be like "Yeah, it's time to get back to work!"

Hollywood has went along with this and will continue to do until then. Within a week after the election you will finally hear celebrities dare to question the shutdown. Things will change overnight. Like night and day.

This post might get deleted, this account blocked, but it's true and you know it.

Theaters should be up and running by the holiday season but not before the election.
