Fox is set to re-release James Cameron´s "Avatar", which will return to cinemas worldwide on August 27,2010 as a 170-minute lenght feature including 8 minutes of additional footage.
For those willing to see it again in the polemic-yet amazing 3D Format or for people who didn´t give the movie a chance when it was in theaters last winter, now they will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in Pandora, the organic planet created by Cameron in which the story takes place.
Additional footage is always a hook for everybody trying to see more of a particular movie that delivers such a rich experience as was watching Avatar in 3D launched wordlwide last december. In the USA,it will be available in about 400 movie theaters including selected IMAX screens.
Though a Blu-Ray (and also perhaps a DVD version) with probably the same additional material will be available next november, this is a good chance to re-live the quest of the Na´vy people defending their home planet from a greedy Earth-based mineral extraction Corporation and its ruthless military arm.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Avatar has earned as much as $2.73 billion U.S. dollars worldwide, of which $749.6 million come from the U.S. and Canada.
That site also quotes Cameron saying:
"Audiences repeatedly told me they wanted more of Pandora, and wished they could have stayed there longer,so we're making that possible", and "Whether you already love the movie, or you've never seen it, with this Special Edition, you'll be seeing it like never before."
The Director of such milestone pictures as T2,The Abyss and Titanic also went on to say that the additional 8 minutes of new scenes will feature "new creatures and action scenes."
So if Fox´s plans go ahead from here until August 27, Avatar will have presence in movie theaters for a full year, since many still remember the hyped up "Avatar Day" (announced by Cameron himself during COMIC-CON 2009),that took place on August 21,2009 in which he previewed 15 minutes of Avatar´s footage.
