Bryan Singer's "Battlestar Galactica" Is Happening

Well, sanity has not prevailed and Universal and Bryan Singer are going ahead with their reboot of a reboot.

This from io9..

"Universal has confirmed that Bryan Singer will produce and direct the big-screen reboot of Battlestar Galactica, following up on Wednesday's leak from HitFix.com. Singer will producer the movie with Galactica creator Glen Larson. No writer has been attached yet."

Apparently Singer already tried to reboot the TV series back in 2001 with producer Tom DeSanto. According to DeSanto, the Sept. 11 attacks gave Universal cold feet about going forward with the dark Singer/DeSanto reboot.

What in hell are they thinking when a dark BSG reboot has already been executed by another creator, garnering love from critics and loyal fan-base. Will these idiots even reference Ronald D Moore's BSG?

Hitfix seems to believe it's still all up in the air saying:

"Right now, my sources indicate that the big decisions haven't been made yet. Singer is the first major creative element to be approached, so once they sign him, they'll go find a writer and they'll figure out exactly which story they're telling. It seems like he'd want to get back to the ideas he originally loved about the piece, but since that was developed with another studio, I'm not sure that would work."

Here is some concept art from Singer's original idea for a reboot back in 2002..

But is anyone going to bother with this movie if the Cylons don't look like this?

Seriously though, unless the cast of the TV show are back in some form for this I really hope it crashes and burns.

Me too. I'm late to this show, just starting season 3. (Borrowing the dvds from my girlfriend.) I hope this pays homage to the show...otherwise what's the point? She show hasn't even been done for a year yet.

Oh ok well whatever. Bryan should be begging Fox to make X4 and X5 but nevermind lets reboot a rebooted franchise. *sighs* Oh Hollywood I will never understand you. And I know what Josh will have to say about this, he aint gonna be too pleased. I really couldnt care either way, Im not a fan of Battlestar Galactica

SAD AND BAD NEWS!!!

See, if we all think REMAKES & REBOOTS are cool and support them, this is what happens!!!

Expect a lot more!

It doesn't even make sense since the excellent BSG series has just finished its run and praised by everyone, it doesn't make sense at all! (An yes i know the actually series was a remake of the old tv series, but it was updated because it needed to be and not becoz its the IN thing).

Don't support REBOOTS & REMAKES! ; )

Its nuts! Even if i was not a huge fan of the show i would still think they were crazy for doing this. BSG has as rabid a fan base as Star Wars(only smaller). I can't see anyone getting behind this unless he links it to Ron Moore's show somehow.

LEEE777 - 8/14/2009, 9:11 AM
ROR @ Me either!

Like you said, i hope it crashes 'n' burns too, just makes no sense to do this?

Id rather they spin the series in a movie like they did FIREFLY!

I'd say Trek definitely has there eyeballs spinning with dollar signs alright! Its a shame they were forced to tie everything up at the end of the final season..badly at that! I didn't hate the final ep but it should have ended so much better..in a movie like you said.

It has everything to do with star trek. And singer will not reference the other verson at all. This will be completely independant. It may reference the original series but don't expect to see a female starbuck or Edward James olmos.

this news is the suck.

if they took the current show and made a movie...id go with that.

If anything make a movie when captain Adama was a rookie and the first cylon war began...that razor flash back series they did was hot.

they updated the original 70's equiptment.

Why? BSG is done, we just saw the end of a great series. Now is not the time to try to reboot it to match its original Star Wars wanna be beginnings. The story is done. Fini. Hell, at least give the last series ten years to gestate before trying to reimagine the damn thing.

Amen brother. Okay, i'm done defending Singer Logan! This really is a brain fart.

Not only has the series just finished, Caprica is just beginning and we have The Plan out soon too.

This is the stupidest idea Singer has had in a while... and that is seriously saying something.

This thing is smothered in weak sauce, and reeks of failure.

Note to Bryan Singer. Stop ruining perfectly good franchises. You peaked with the X-Men. You wanna reboot something so bad? You should start with your career.

jesus, first off this is lame. it just got rebooted. but to everyone constantly complaining about remakes and reboots and how we shouldn't support them...i hope none of you went and saw star trek...or batman begins...or the dark knight...or the BSG rebooted series...i could go on and on. reboots and remakes ARE NOT BAD THINGS! all those movies i mentioned prove that. and there are still plenty of original movies that get made. i've said it before, but ANY movie based on a comic, old cartoon, or anything else is not an original idea. i find it extremely hypocritical to bash remakes/reboots, but then turn around and go watch one because its something that interests YOU. just accept the fact that you aren't going to like EVERYTHING. but for every person that isn't interested, there is someone who is.

as for BSG, this just got rebooted, it doesn't need one, especially when the newer show was so good.

I hate Singer for the Isle of Kryptonite! I love Bad Ass Robots, so i am torn, and a little scared :(
MarkCassidy
MarkCassidy - 8/14/2009, 11:52 AM
For me its very simple. Reboots of shit movies is fine, reboots of movies made a loooong time ago is acceptable..as long as they respect the original. Reboots of amazing movies or shows made within the last couple of years..BULLSHIT! Obviously Batman needed to be rebooted after Shitmakers movies. Trek went back to the original crew who had not been in a movie in over 15 years..and all of the original cast were too old to come back anyway!
CorndogBurglar
CorndogBurglar - 8/14/2009, 12:02 PM
@ ror

i agree, this show hasn't been over more than a year, it doesn't need it. but the whole "it isn't an original idea" argument doesn't work. none of these CBMs, cartoon movies, etc. are original. sure they usually put some kind of certain spin on the newer version, but so does every new writer when they take over a comic. if you want original, go see district 9 or inglourious basterds (i know i am!). but don't complain about original ideas, but then go watch iron man, a movie thats very close to the source material. that is not an original idea...

I don't post on here as much as I should. But BSG became my favourite series of all time. I am still watching the DVD sets (again)and am looking forward to Caprica full time....not to mention 'BSG The Plan' this fall on DVD...plus the other 'direct to dvd' movie they have in the works. There's just way too much goodness of BSG for some putz to come and ruin it to ride on the coat tails of someone elses work.

I'm guessing there's no such thing as copyrights or ownership anymore?

First this is so far down the line it may never be read. That being said, am I the only 40 something out there that is just ashamed by the lack of original thoughts about movies? TDK was far enough removed and a far cry from any of the 1980-90's movies. BSG though not original, was 100 times better than what I grew up watching on ABC as a kid. I wish that Warner or Fox or heck any of them would give me 100,000 to sit at home for a year and I could come up with at least 3-10 great original ideas that have not been done before and at least one would be good I guarantee. Where have the Kevin Smith's and Josh Wheadon's(I know I spelt it wrong)gone? I mean I read far greater ideas from the misfits that roam the pages of this site and I mean that in a good way. Even George Lucas rather than doing 7.8,9 while the original actors are alive and look young enough is messing with animation. Oh well I have a year to go for my Masters and I will be able to write while working.
