Yes, he's meant to be big but not anywhere near as big as he is in this film. And the problem with this whole King Kong/Godzilla cinematic universe is that these films are being forced into a cinematic universe just so the two can fight.

The King Kong seen in the original Kong vs. Godzilla film was not the same King Kong from the King Kong film. That was Toho's own version of King Kong created for the fight film. But because every studio now wants to cash in on this cinematic universe trend...

Also, what comes after the King Kong vs. Godzilla reboot? What purpose will this cinematic universe serve after that?

Yes, a cinematic universe already exists with Toho's monsters (including their specific version of King Kong), but not with the actual King Kong movie characters. But two things:

1. Since when do they change the characters every versus film? I don't know which ones you have been watching, but Freddy and Jason in Freddy vs. Jason were the exact same characters they were in their solo films, Alien and Predator were still Alien and Predator in Alien vs. Predator, Frankenstein and the Wolfman in Frankenstein Meets The Wolfman were exactly the same as they were in their solo films, and (if anything), Batman was probably LESS powerful in Batman v Superman than he is in the comic and I doubt his skill set will change in the upcoming solo film.

2. And even if, hypothetically, the characters were changed for the Versus film, they certainly wouldn't stay that way in the solo films (especially in the ones made BEFORE the fight movie). And the only reason King Kong is in the same cinematic universe seems to be just so they can make the Kong vs. Godzilla reboot. Other than that, they have no reason to be in the same cinematic universe. And if they want King Kong to appear in the Godzilla films, then why does it have to be in the same universe as the main King Kong films at all? Why not just introduce a separate version of Kong in those films instead of altering King Kong in the main films just so he can fight Godzilla. And the problem now is that King Kong is going to be way too overpowered in the main King Kong series.

@Darkknight2149 - Nemesis will agree with you on the movies you listed, Nemesis was referring to more along the lines of comics and other media, however if you're saying that comicbook characters havent been changed to make them more suitable for their movies then we can get into that another time.

Again that goes back to that all crossovers are strictly made for prophet and entertainment. There is nothing deeper that would need to be shared between their universes that is needed. That goes for ANY universe. Be thankful that they happen and do your best not to look at it any harder then that.

Not really. In Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare, Freddy Krueger retained a number of powers when in the real world. In Freddy vs. Jason, he had no powers what so ever (aside from not dying after getting his head cut off).

@Darkknight2149 - Is it a forced Cinematic Universe when they did it before, not to mention decades earlier than before the term Cinematic Universe became common?

@Darkknight2149 - Isn't that what this is, though? It may not be Toho, or it could be? Anyway, this is independent of the other movies, in that They come from Universal Studios, while this King Kong is part of Legendary, like the modern Godzilla.
