Fresh off his breakout role as rapper Eazy-E in F. Gary Gray's critically acclaimed biopic Straight Outta Compton, actor Jason Mitchell has signed on for a role in UniversalLegendary's upcoming monster epic Kong: Skull Island, which hits theaters March 10, 2017 and is being helmed by Jordan Vogt-Roberts (The Kings Of Summer) with a script from Derek Connolly (Jurassic World).

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Mitchell will portray an easy going pilot, who will likely be a part of the crew of explorers that find themselves on the mysterious Skull Island, which coincidentally is also the residence of the king of the apes Kong.

This move reunites Mitchell with his Compton co-star Corey Hawkins (Iron Man 3). He also joins a cast that already features Tom Hiddleston (Thor), Brie Larson (21 Jump Street), Samuel L. Jackson (The Avengers), John C. Reilly (Guardians Of The Galaxy), and Tom Wilkinson (Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol).

Kong: Skull Island is expected to kick off production late October in Hawaii.

Great actor!

Sad they're going to probably try and kill him off.

@BreadPitt

The director has said that the original cut was 3 hours and 30 min. So I think there might be a director's cut.

The only things that have me worried about this film is the guy who's writing the script and the fact that both Keaton and Simmons passed on it. (though it could possibly be due to scheduling conflicts)

Nice addition. I wonder if Samuel L Jackson has been approached for this project yet. I'd love to see him in a supporting role. When does this thing start shooting.

Shoooot, I think F. Garay Grey would be a great choice and all, but has anyone seen the trailer for "Beast of No Nation"?

Hopefully this guy could get his hands on the sequel if someone else directs.

@theoraclenerd

Cary Fukunaga. He is good. However, If he is the one marvel picks for a Black Panther movie, then I wouldn't want Wakanda to be portrayed like the way it is in Beast of No Nation. I mean it looks good but I'm tired of Africans being portrayed ax terrorist of militants attacking people from villages.

Straight Outta Compton is one of the best biopics ever. Obviously it will get snubbed by the Oscars, the film deserves Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor Jason Mitchell, Best Supporting Actor Giamatti. At least a nomination but this cast is So awesome!

Great cast, but you know, Naomi Watts, Jack Black, Adrien Brody, and Andy Serkis directed by Peter Jackson sounded very cool back in 2005

@Pathogen Is not that bad (considering previous efforts), my expectations were too high because the cast was great and the trailer awesome. Same story with Godzilla, Prometheus, Hobbit, etc Not bad movies, but not as good as we expect.

I liked SOC but not much happened in the movie that I didn't know about. I wonder, in the extended version will they show Dre's women beating antics? Like when he threw Barns through a door.
