for some reason reading comics and doing everything else is nerdy enough for me, but doctor who just is a little to NERDY for me haha

@Doopie, yes. I have watched the first episode from his series. Every new Doctor it's a new invitation for the series. You can watch from him. That is all you need to know: He's a alien who thought he was the last one of his species (he's not, he saved his planet in the anniversary special). He travels in space in time in a spaceship who is bigger on the inside (and has the format of a police box). He don't die, he regenerates - a new appearance and personality, even with his memories intact. It's amazing.

@Doopie, by the way, he's traveling now from a girl named Clara, who was disintegrated in all timelines possible from the life of the Doctor and had one mission her entire live: to save the Doctor. But the Doctor entered his own timeline to save her from the "place of all timelines" where she was in. That happened because the Doctor died in a planet called Trenzalore, but the time lords changed it, so he's now alive. And that way, he can regerates 11 more times (yes, he could only regenerate 12 times, but you know, time changes... unless it's a fixed point, that way, if you change it, time will destroy itself, since it's a mega import event that the fate of the universe depend of it). That is just for you see how the series works haha.

@Doopie, oh, so don't worry, you can watch it undisturbedly. And Capaldi is amazing! He's different than any Doctor before... And the series will change a lot from him, i'm sure about it.

I always wanted to get into Doctor Who but never knew exactly where to start... Any recommendations? or can I start this version and not feel lost

@Alphaman06, if you would like to catch the series fast as you can, you can watch from Series 5 (lot of amazing stories with nice special effects). But if you would like a better plan, you can watch from Series 1 (I'm talking about the modern series). But if you watch from season 1, just know that you'll face a LOT of bad episodes (like the first and the second one. Dude, watch they did with my precious autons). But don't worry, soon you'll like it, even if you hate it in the beginning.

@NYCGEEK: Capaldi is the 12th Doctor (see official BBC labeling below). The War Doctor is not counted because he forsook the name.

If that doesn't work for you, then try Capaldi.

To be honest, the relaunch doesn't take too long to start from the beginning. Considering the 50th anniversary, it's better to start from Series 1 (2005) rather than start at Series 5 (2010).

Doctor Who is designed to be a show where anyone can jump on a random episode though so...

@Celotom: Bah, I liked the mannequin Autons. A perfect example of Dr Who straddling the line between creepy and goofy. Yeah Eccleston had a few weak episodes, but Tennant and Smith had some truly craptacular ones, too. These things happen.

Anyway, for what it's worth, I'd recommend starting with the first series with Eccleston to a complete newbie. It's a better introduction to the show.
