Gritty R-Rated POWER RANGERS Fan Film Starring Katee Sackhoff

Zach, Jason, Tommy, Billy, Kimberly and Trini are all present in this gritty Power Rangers fan film from director Joseph Kahn. The film is produced by Adi Shankar (The Grey, Lone Survivor, Hitman: Agent 47), the same producer who made Dirty Laundry and Venom: Truth in Journalism. Apparently, the main antagonist of the fan film is the Machine Empire, who debuted during Power Rangers: Zeo.  In addition to starring James Van Der Beek and Sackoff, the film also features Russ Bain, Bree Olson,  and Will Yun Lee.

I feel like this proves that a serious/realistic take on the Power Rangers would be mad awkward.

Seem like this was what Katee Sackhoff was hinting at months ago. Cool and fun short.

I would [frick] with this if it were a tv series or Internet series. Pretty cool. Loved dirty laundry...this guy is a cool director of shorts.

I officially hate the word gritty forever.

@InfiniteMonkey Yeah, the director said this would only work as a 14 minute short. He wouldn't be interested in a big-budget, $200M PG-13 version of this. Makes you wonder what Lionsgate is going to do.

This guy should be the showrunner for a Netflix punisher show.

Also, Van Der Beek was Rocky, the Red Ranger that replaced Jason.

I didn't grow up with Power Rangers, so maybe I'm alone, but I'd totally want a feature length Rangers movie like this.

No more campiness!!!1!1!1!1!1!

Even though that was pretty f*cking awesome, that was a really weird take on Power Rangers.

They just need to make it a little bit serious compared to the tv shows (kinda like the tone in TMNT), have epic fights like the old school martial arts movies for the hand to hand combat and Pacific Rim battles for the monster fights.

Power Rangers is silly, lets not try too hard. No need to Nolan it, the movie should still have a element of fantastical fun.

If they was to go this way for the movie....I'll still be happy.

Wow, this was really awesome. I can see it as a good feature R rated movie but the original uniforms do not look too good for a movie format.

Before people are down on this for being simply a stupid dark and gritty thing, heres a quote from the director

"And by the way, the dark and gritty reboot thing is such a cliché that the intention was not only to make it dark and gritty but make it even darker and grittier than you could possibly imagine, hence the brains, the blood and the violence and the sex."

@SpiderFraud

How is Nolan a staple for that. All he did was do that for his Batman movies. I do think taking Power Rangers more serious can help it and it gives us something different than what we've seen countless times before
