Lionsgate has just announced that they've decided to push back the release dates for their upcoming Mighty Morphin Power Rangers reboot and for their final Divergent film, Ascendant. Don't worry too much about it though as these new release dates are a little more ideal than the old ones.

The Divergent Series: Ascendant, which will be the fourth and final installment in the Shailene Woodley-led dystopian sci-fi action series, will now arrive in theaters during the summer on June 7, 2017, opening against Brad Pitt's World War Z sequel. Meanwhile, the Dean Israelite-directed Power Rangers reboot has been moved to Ascendant's old date and will now arrive in theaters on March 24, 2017.

The date shift would seemingly suggest that Lionsgate may have quite a bit of confidence in their ability to launch a new franchise with Power Rangers as they've previously had massive success opening their two biggest franchises during that same March weekend - The Hunger Games & Divergent. Additionally, as many of you are probably aware, Warner Bros. has set Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice to open during the same weekend in 2016, so things are certainly looking up for the Power Rangers as they escape their previously unideal January release. However, while they may have a much better date, the film could still face heavy competition from a worthy foe as Universal has their upcoming reboot of The Mummy, which may or may not star Tom Cruise, slated for that same weekend.

Check out the official announcement below:

Power Rangers is the best.
Watch all 770 episodes on Netflix and you will understand my joy.
Seriously it was a nightmare watching all of that.

Oh, yes. Push the last chapter of a franchise that is drawing book readers away because of "adaptation choices" even further than the already 1 year spam that is also pushing other people way because this amount of time makes people forget about the movie in the first place. And also put it in the summer where it has a lot more of competition pretty much saying it won't have "long legs...".

Probably a mistake, tbh. Marvel is already beating them to the punch with their own Power Rangers movie.

Well now i'm a little bit less worried. Seems they are a bit more confident if it isn't stuck in January.

Good idea. We are entering the prime of 90's nostalgia. The ridiculous success of Jurassic World I think is proof enough of that. So Independence Day and Power Rangers has the opportunity to be very successful and make lots of money.
