PREY Star Amber Midthunder Teases Sequel Plans For PREDATOR Spin-Off And Shares Excitement To Return As Naru

Prey put a fresh spin on the Predator franchise last year, and star Amber Midthunder has now seemingly confirmed that sequel talks are taking place while also sharing her excitement to play Naru again.

Prey was a hit with fans and critics alike when it launched on Hulu last July, and star Amber Midthunder has now confirmed that sequel talks are underway. The actress played Naru in the reboot, with her Comanche warrior encountering the deadly aliens in that 1700s setting, resulting in an exciting new take on a franchise which had grown stale.

Talking at the Critics Choice Awards (via SFFGazette.com), Prey's lead star made it clear that, while she can't officially confirm anything at this stage, she's very confident a follow-up is in the works.

"I don’t have a date for you. This is not an announcement, but I’m not saying it is not," Midthunder teased. "We talk all the time about a lot of things and that’s probably one. I’m ready. I loved that experience. I love that movie. And I would be happy to, you know, see where else we can take it."

The end credits suggested Naru's tribe will go to war with an entire army of invading Predators, so it's possible we'll follow that story or jump ahead a few years. Either way, all signs currently point to us remaining in this setting, particularly if Midthunder's comments are any indication (it might be a little cheesy for the actress to play one of Naru's ancestors, for example).

Prey is the best-reviewed Predator movie according to Rotten Tomatoes, and we're pretty sure official sequel news is on the way. Ultimately, that will come down to whether the reboot was a hit in terms of viewership, though we've previously heard that it most definitely was

In our review last year, we wrapped up by saying, "Prey delivers pure Predator pandemonium, and is the Predator franchise at its best. It's also a much-needed fresh start for the series that allows Amber Midthunder to shine in a role that promises to put her on the map."

Prey is now streaming on Hulu. What are you most excited to see in a possible sequel?

I loved Prey, but I don't think a sequel in the same setting is the way to go (not that I wouldn't watch it).

Give me Medieval Predator or Victorian Predator. Just start throwing Predators across history.

Good for her, she’ll be the first to have her character return in a Predator sequel.

I'm not interested in watching more primitive people take on the predators. If they want to keep her as a star I would recommend some cryogenic freezing and then bring her forward in time whee she learns how to use future weapons. Then she could use her experience in 1st movie to train others or make them knowledgeable of how to defeat one. She could be a better version of Lawrence Fishbourne's character that isn't crazy.

The first one was a lovely surprise, trying to catch that lightning again will be difficult.

Loved the movie…Really seems to have gotten the franchise back on track…It was in dire need of a new direction and luckily they did this well enough to get the interest of not only the fan base, but also new people who maybe haven’t watched a Predator movie in a couple of decades…I convinced a coworker of mine who hadn’t watched a Predator film since AvP to give this one a go and he absolutely loved it…

That being said, I think I’d rather they skip out on doing a direct sequel to Prey…I’d much rather they continue on by showing the various visits the Yautja have made to earth throughout history…Feudal Japan, Medieval Europe / England, 17th Century Caribbean, First Century Rome…Roman Gladiators, Samurai, Medieval Knights, Viking Warriors, Pirates…These are all settings Prey opened up to expand the franchise into…

I'd be open to a sequel because Prey was great, but I don't see how they could make this a direct sequel. I know they teased an invasion at the end, but I much rather see that take place over different settings (like cowboys or samurai)

@bkmeijer1 - I don't feel like a full on Invasion really even fits the Predators as far as everything we know about them. They've never been a race that cares about invading others. They've always been hunters.

And let's be real, yes they killed a Predator. But a native American tribe would not stand a chance against a full Invasion of preds.

@CorndogBurglar - good point. Guess it would work better if they covertly just land all over the globe and wreak havoc on a small scale (which would be the reason to have all these different setting I'm suggesting).

Are we ever going to get a Predator movie where the Predator actually wins? I want to see one where the Predator kills all the humans, tired of him being the ultimate movie jobber.

@IronMan616 - That would take some craftiness. It would have to matter than the main character dies at the end. Otherwise the pred would just kill everyone and walk away. The end.
