Could Clive Owen Replace Hugh Laurie In ROBOCOP?
After Hugh Laurie (House) recently ended negotiations to play a villain in MGM's RoboCop reboot, the studio is now looking at a group of actors to play the character, including Sin City's Clive Owen.
Last night, news broke that former House star Hugh Laurie was no longer attached to play a villain in MGM's RoboCop reboot, which will begin filming soon. Though never officially confirmed to play the head of the facility that made RoboCop (who will be played by Joel Kinnaman in the new film), Laurie was in negotiations for some time before recently ending them. There is currently no reason known as to why he dropped out, but many have speculated that a scathing recent script review may have something to do with it. So many have likely been wondering, "Who will replace Laurie?".
In their article on Laurie's dropping out, Deadline reveals that MGM is currently looking at "a small group of actors" to play the character that Laurie was previously expected to play. The only one that has been named by the site is Clive Owen (Inside Man, Sin City). There's currently no word on whether or not Owen is the front runner for the role, but stay tuned to CBM for more news soon.
RoboCop, directed by Jose Padilha, stars Joel Kinnaman, Gary Oldman, Samuel L. Jackson, Jackie Earle Haley, Abbie Cornish and Jay Baruchel. This new take on the character, played by Peter Weller in the original 1987, is set to hit theaters August 3rd, 2013.
