We recently learned that Viggo Mortensen and Javier Bardem were rumored to be up for the lead role of Roland Deschain in the upcoming
Dark Tower trilogy, being directed by Ron Howard, which is perfectly fine with most fans. Now, there are rumors about the lead female role. The NY Post kept it short and sweet in this rumor saying only
"That "Pirates of the Caribbean" beauty Naomie Harris is being considered for the female lead in the Ron Howard's eagerly anticipated "Dark Tower" trilogy."
The actress can also be seen in Danny Boyles'
28 Days Later... and James McTeigue's
Ninja Assassin.
Stephan King has always thought that Angela Bassett, who can be seen in this year's
Green Lantern as Amanda Waller, was a perfect fit for the role of Susannah Dean, but her age may keep that casting from happening. I'd keep this labeled as a rumor for now, but it's one for fans to be excited about as Harris was easily one of the best parts of the
Pirates of the Caribbean series.
For those not familiar with the character, here is a bit of a background on Susannah Dean:
Susannah Dean is originally known as Odetta Holmes and Detta Walker, two wildly different women trapped within the same body. After suffering a serious brain trauma early in her life, Odetta's damaged mind created the Detta personality, a cold-blooded and violent racist with intentions of killing both Roland and Eddie. Eventually, Roland successfully fuses the legless woman's two personalities into the solitary Susannah Dean, turning her into an invaluable member of his Ka-tet of gunslingers.
