Back in May, Latino-Review reported that Joe Cornish was being considered by Paramount as a replacement for J.J. Abrams (who is obviously busy with Star Wars Episode VII) to helm Star Trek 3. Despite Abrams making it clear that he wants to return, the studio are hoping to release the third instalment in order to coincide with the 50th anniversary of the franchise. Well, Deadline are now reporting that "the studio is sweet on Joe Cornish to direct the next film" and that while it's still early days, they say to stay tuned for updates. The movie is also thought to still be on track for a summer 2016 release. Cornish's directorial debut was the superb Attack the Block, while he worked with Edgar Wright on Ant-Man and The Adventures of Tintin.

I was surprisingly impressed with "Attack the Block." Wouldn't be upset if he directs.

I liked Attack The Block..bit concerned that he only has that one feature under his belt before tackling something like Star Trek though.

I'd rather him do a sequel to Attack The Block. But if we get passed Abrams boner for lens flares that works for me too.

Hope to see a third movie soon. I also hope they setup a Nemesis sequel that is set later in the future and hopefully expand the Prime Universe. Though I think we will never enter that universe ever again so we'll see.

Hopefully a new TV show as well or something. Bring something back that was close to TNG. NEW and CREATIVE like TNG was. Break barriers and be innovative.

I wasn't a fan of Attack the Block but the guy would probably be ok. I'd much prefer Rupert Wyatt though

He would be an interesting choice of a director. I'm sure he'll be great if the studios consider him as there number one choice.

Cornish is totally capable and the fact that he hasn't done something this big yet, makes him a good choice: he'll really get out there and try to make a good film.
