STAR TREK BEYOND Casts Lydia Wilson In Mysterious Role

Relative newcomer Lydia Wilson (About Time, Never let Me Go, Ripper Street) has joined the cast of Justin Lin's Star Trek Beyond. Will she be a friend to Kirk, Spock and the crew of the Enterprise; or perhaps she'll side with Idris Elba's villainous character instead?

Star Trek Beyond has beamed up another new recruit in the form of Lydia Wilson, but in keeping with pretty much every other casting announcement for this movie so far, we have no details about the character she'll be playing whatsoever.

Wilson will probably be best known for playing Domhnall Gleeson’s sister in the Richard Curtis romantic comedy About Time, but she also popped up in the haunting sci-fi drama, Never let Me Go. Whoever she's playing she joins returning cast members Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Simon Pegg, Karl Urban, Zoe Saldana and Anton Yelchin; along with other new faces Joe Taslim, Sofia Boutella, and Idris Elba - who we do know will play a villain, at least.

This installment in the rebooted Trek franchise will be directed by Justin Lin from a script by Simon Pegg and Doug Jung, and is set to hit theters July 8, 2016.

I'm still waiting to hear something about Sofia Boutella's role in this, I'm starting to think it's going to be a really small part now

Is Alice Eve coming back? She was the best thing about the 2nd movie.

I always thought Juno Temple could play Janice Rand.

Well we do know whoever she is playing we all know she will be doing one thing.

It seems the Star Trek reboot must have all the women with speaking lines wear nothing but underwear for at least one scene.

@Mego

Luckily, everything that has ever had a Star Trek logo on it up until Abrams' reboot was awful. So to hell with those fans.

Maybe McGee's right. Maybe she's playing Janice Rand.

I'll bet that, if you were to add up every character's screen times in The Original Series, Janice Rand might even have more screen time than Uhura, Sulu or Chekov. But she always seems to be overlooked.
And she does exit in the rebooted universe, too, as in seen in the IDW comic.

Alice Eve has to come back or there's already a gaping plot-hole, considering the fact she's part of the Five Year Mission crew.

@Mego They didn't do anything to expand the Fanbase? I've talked to a lot of people who said they were never a Star Trek fan until they seen JJ Abrams's movies and judging by these numbers, I would say they did quite well.

Star Trek 2009 Critics – 95% Audience – 91% Box office $385.7 million

Star Trek: Into Darkness Critics 87% Audience - 90% Box office $467.4 million
