To celebrate the 35th anniversary of its June 4, 1982 release, "Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan" will hit theaters September 10th and 13th. The event will feature an introduction from William Shatner who portrayed Captain James Kirk in the original series. Largely regarded as one of the best big screen Star Trek stories, Wrath of Khan featured the crew of the fictional starship Enterprise taking on the genetically enhanced superhuman Khan Noonien Singh as he sought to exact revenge on Kirk for stranding him on a planet, a prequel story that aired in the original TV series. Directed by Nicholas Meyer the event will feature a digitally remastered Director’s Cut version of the film.
Created by Gene Roddenberry, Star Trek debuted in 1966 and aired for three seasons on NBC. It spawned five TV live action series, one animated show, and thirteen feature films. A new series - Star Trek Discovery - is currently set to air on CBS All Access. The Wrath of Khan, was the second feature film to be released and greatly influenced popular culture as it brought about the apparent demise of one of the series most beloved characters, Mr. Spock portrayed by Leonard Nimoy. Many of the same themes and characters greatly influenced the subsequent film, Star Trek Into Darkness which saw the principle characters from the series again confronting Khan with a new cast. The Wrath of Khan won two Saturn Awards in 1982, for best actor (William Shatner) and best director (Nicholas Meyer). The film was also nominated for a 1983 Hugo Award in the "best dramatic presentation" category.
The film will be released by Fathom Events.
