With the script for Star Trek 2 due around Christmas time, and director JJ Abrams working on his Speilberg tribute Super 8,Viacom COO Tom Dooley revealed that JJ Abrams hasn't signed on to direct the sequel.
According to Digital Spy,
"J.J. Abrams has not yet agreed to be the director of the upcoming sequel to Star Trek, it has been revealed. Abrams, who directed the first Star Trek, is currently busy filming his secret project Super 8. The script for the second Star Trek movie will reportedly be finished by Christmas and the studio is eager to begin production."
Star Trek 2 has a release date of June 29,2012
