Mr. McQuarrie's original concept paintings and illustrations of the world George Lucas had envisioned in his now iconic film 'Star Wars' Episodes 4,5 & 6 helped persuade Fox studio execs to 'green light' the project.

Without his visionary and breath-taking art, the world may have never been blessed with what we now take for granted.

I happen to own a collection of his prints in book form, paged through a million times, wherein one can see how utterly instrumental he was in creating George Lucas' world in a galaxy far, far away.

He was 82.

Every true 'Star Wars' fan will mourn his loss.
