Set in the not too distant future, Doug Liman's Chaos Walking picks up with Todd Hewitt (Tom Holland) when he discovers Viola (Daisy Ridley), a mysterious girl who crash lands on his planet, where all the women have disappeared and the men are afflicted by "the Noise" – a force that puts all their thoughts on display. In this dangerous landscape, Viola’s life is threatened – and as Todd vows to protect her, he will have to discover his own inner power and unlock the planet’s dark secrets.
Ahead of the movie's release in the UK (it will be available for premium rental at home on all digital platforms from April 2nd), we spoke to Daisy Ridley about her experience working on the sci-fi project.
When Chaos Walking was shot in 2017, both Holland and Ridley had just found superstardom as Rey in The Force Awakens and Spider-Man in Captain America: Civil War, respectively. Did that help them bond and add to their chemistry on set?
"It's funny because I just feel like it's so different for Tom," Ridely explained. "I am part of a group of people that are in this universe people love. I love what I got to do, I love the character I got to play, but I never felt like I was on my own. There was always someone nearby. [Laughs] Tom is literally playing Spider-Man in 'Spider-Man.' Obviously, there's Zendaya and Jacob [Batalon], and it's a beautiful group, but he's literally the face of the thing."
"It feels different and the reaction to him and Nick [Jonas]...people are wild for them," the face of the Star Wars sequels continued. "So, yeah, it really doesn't feel the same. It feels very different. I was always like, 'Wow, he deals with it so well.' He gets approached all the time and he's always so nice and gracious. Honestly, it just feels different. He's super mega famous."
It's interesting to hear Daisy's take on this. We'd argue she's a huge star in her own right after playing Rey Skywalker, though it's true Holland and Jonas have very passionate fanbases.
