Christian Bale Confirms SOLO: A STAR WARS STORY Talks; Seems Interested In A Future STAR WARS Project
During a new interview, Christian Bale (The Dark Knight trilogy) confirmed that he was indeed up for the mentor role in Solo: A Star Wars Story, but things clearly didn't work out. More past the jump...
Around the time Woody Harrelson was cast as the young space-smuggler's mentor in Solo: A Star Wars Story, a rumor that Christian Bale was also in line for the role did the rounds, and the actor has now confirmed that this was the case.

While appearing on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Bale said the role was "tempting", but doesn't divulge the specific reason he decided to pass on it.
“Yes, [it was] very tempting. I not only love the films going back to my childhood but also have a very long relationship with Kathleen Kennedy and Frank Marshall because they did Empire of the Sun many years back. There was discussion, [and] I hope there will be future discussions.”
Those "future discussions" could very well come to fruition, because the Dark Knight star is a big fan of the galaxy far, far away, and admits to still having The Millennium Falcon and an At-At in his collection. However, we probably shouldn't hold our breaths for another superhero role any time soon, because Bale also reiterates that he really doesn't have much interest:
"I have not [seen Ben Affleck’s Batman]. Yes I’m interested [in seeing it], my son seemed like he was really interested, but then I realized he just wanted to see the trailer and that was it—I tend to go see films that [my kids] want to see. I have to confess I’m not a huge superhero film fan. People seem surprised at that, I don’t know why. I’ve not seen any of the Avengers films or any of those films at all. I hear they’re very good, but I’m quite happy just hearing they’re very good."
