Disney's Alan Horn Talks STAR WARS EPISODE VII; Addresses Matthew Vaughn Rumors
Disney head honcho Alan Horn talks here about how they managed to keep their acquisition of LucasFilm under wraps and refuses to confirm or deny rumours that Matthew Vaughn (Kick-Ass) will helm Star Wars: Episode VII, but promises that an announcement is imminent.
It seems fair to say that no one saw Disney's acquisition of Lucasfilm coming when the news broke last month in the form of a press release. Talking to Vulture recently, Walt Disney Studios chairman Alan Horn revealed exactly how they managed to keep the deal under wraps. "We threatened everybody with a blast from the Death Star!" he laughed before adding, "But really, I think everybody was mature about it. It's important to keep these things confidential, so people just kept their mouths shut." Of course, the news that there will be a whole new trilogy of Star Wars movies was included in that press release, but it should come as no surprise to learn that even less people knew about that. "It was a very small group. Probably a smaller group than knew about the attack on bin Laden!"
Since the announcement, there has been a lot of rumours about who will helm Star Wars Episode VII, but the name which seems to keep cropping up is X-Men: First Class director Matthew Vaughn. Refusing to confirm whether those reports are true or not, he did say this about an upcoming announcement. "I would say you'll know soon. And it's got to come from Kathy Kennedy — we don't have the company yet!" For anyone still worrying about about what the studio have planned for the beloved characters, Horn wanted to assure fans that they have nothing at all to worry about. "We take very seriously the obligation to make a very good movie. Kathy is a very experienced producer; George Lucas is the godfather of that franchise and very, very involved on a consulting basis, so we feel very confident."
