Rumours have been swirling about
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story over the past few weeks, with the most troubling pointing to 50% of the movie being reshot, Gareth Edwards not being involved as director, and an amazing Darth Vader sequence being toned down to be more family friendly.
Talking to
The Independent,
Hannibal and
Doctor Strange star Mads Mikkelsen was asked about his involvement with the reshoots, and revealed:
"I have one day. I can’t remember when, in two weeks I think." The actor has previously confirmed that he's playing Jyn Erso's father, so it's possible that his role was fairly minor to begin with, but he then went on to explain why fans shouldn't be worried about
Rogue One undergoing reshoots over the summer.
"Basically, all the big films I have done always have reshoots, it is part of their budget. They’re either not super happy with a scene bit, the way we were acting, or maybe there’s something they want to add. It’s not a new thing, it happens with every film. Whether it’s bigger or less, I have no idea, I have nothing to compare with. It’s the same film, it’s just adding little bits here and there to do the final polishing. That’s my feeling."
With Kathleen Kennedy and Edwards set to appear at Star Wars Celebration next month, chances are these reshoots will be addressed in greater detail then. For now, Mikkelsen's comments may help some fans relax, but it's hard to be 100% sure what's going on when there's so much conflicting information doing the rounds. With this being Disney's first
Star Wars spinoff, here's hoping it ends up working, eh?
