Epic Games' popular battle royale game Fortnite is no stranger when it comes to celebrating massive cultural icons and milestones. The game has hosted celebratory events for TV shows (Stranger Things), musicians (Marshmello), movies (Avengers, John Wick), and even other games (Borderlands 3, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order).
Next week, Fortnite will play host for an event dedicated to the upcoming theatrical release of Disney and Lucasfilm's Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.
According to in-game posters and a special announcement from Epic Games, an exclusive scene from The Rise of Skywalker will premiere within the game itself on December 14. The scene will be shown in Fortnite's Risky Reels — an in-game location themed like a drive-in theater — with doors opening at 1:30 p.m. ET and the actual scene playing at 2:00 p.m EST.
The announcement poster makes mention of J.J. Abrams, suggesting viewers will also be treated to a special message from the movie's director.
Last month, Fortnite also helped celebrate the release of EA's game, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, by releasing a special Imperial Stormtrooper cosmetic skin.
Epic Games seems to have a good relationship with Disney. In addition to creating special game modes for the Marvel's Avengers movies, Fortnite also briefly popped up on-screen in Avengers: Endgame. Risky Reels also played a brief clip of Wreck-It Ralph to help promote the release of its sequel, Ralph Breaks the Internet, earlier this year.
Fortnite is a free-to-play game so if you want to catch the scene, all you have to do is download the game across one of the many platforms it's available for. It's unclear if the scene will be released online after the in-game event.
