First Two Stand Alone Films From STAR WARS To Be Based On Han Solo And Boba Fett

Yesterday it was announced that Disney would be seeking to do some new stand alone Star Wars films away from Episode VII, VII, and IX. Now, according to a new report just out, the first two films will be based on Boba Fett and Han Solo.

After yesterday's news broke that Disney would be looking to branch our the Star Wars name and produce solo movies based on characters in the universe, some new details have popped up on who the movies will be based on. According to Entertainment Weekly, the first movies out side the saga will be based on cargo smuggler Han Solo and bounty hunter Boba Fett.

EW's source says the Han film will take place between Revenge of The Sith and A New Hope. While they didn't rule out a Harrison Ford return in some way shape or form, this means get ready for a new and younger Han. Ford was 35 when he first appeared in A New Hope, so presumably it will be someone even younger than that.

The Boba Fett film on the other hand has two possible time lines. They are looking at putting the film between A New Hope and The Empire Strikes Back, or between Empire and Return of The Jedi. While there are no current casting rumors on the film, EW does point out that Temuera Morrison, who played Jango Fett in the prequels, is still of an age where he could play the bounty hunter. This would makes sense given the fact that Boba is a clone of Jango.

One thing that the films both hope to accomplish is utilizing some other fan favorite characters that met their demise in the original trilogy. Disney is hoping to inset Darth Vader in the mix of things as a potential bad guy for one or both of the movies. There is also mention of the door being left open for Jaba the Hutt.

While no directors have been chosen or contacted for the films, it is worth noting that Joe Johnston, who brought Captain America to the big screen, has said in the past he would like a crack at directing a Boba Fett movie. More recently Robert Rodriguez voiced his desire to bring a Han Solo film to fruition. While this is all the information that we have at the time, it seems that Disney is moving full steam ahead with these project. I honestly don't want an origin story for Han Solo but that may change depending on who they cast as the Young Solo, and how young are they going coz Josh Brolin would be [frick]ing awesome as an fairly young(?) Solo. Johnston for Boba Fett movie!

I've always been asking for a Bounty Hunter-centric Star Wars movie, and now we're getting one with Boba Fett, instead. I couldn't be any happier.

Wouldn't it make more sense just to have Fett as the villain in Hans film?

I would like a Han Solo movie with Boba Fett as an enemy, when ever watching the ESB and ROTJ I get this feeling that these two characters share somekind of history.

This pleases me. Hopefully Jar Jar Abrams will have nothing to do with the standalones. That actually would be the one thing that would make me not want to bother seeing it.

No to a Han movie. No one can do the character justice. Leave the original cast alone, please.

Sure these movies are cool and everything but you know this wasn't exactly what I had in mind when they said spin-off movies. I mean the seven-samurai style movie was what I considered would have been a spin-off, allowing them to use an entirely new band of characters. I mean lets be honest Episode 7 is going to have some of the guard with out a doubt.

The only way Han Solo film could work is if Disney do a Tron and CGI his face to a younger version of himself. Would love to see Tarantino do a Boba fett movie

Looking forward to Boba and Han.

Even if it is Boba instead of Jango. But to be fair, we did get a lot of Jango in Ep.II, which is pretty much the only reason I'll watch it.

It would be epic to see the Lando lose the Falcon to Han at some point in the film.

I am so torn!!! Han Solo is an icon, and Harrison Ford owns that role....but, the torch is getting passed, so I guess I have to look at it like James Bond.....Connery owns it, but others followed....

Can't we have something new & fresh? Or are these spin offs all going to be more prequel crude that never live up to expectations. I guess Darth Maul is next.

He didnt meet his demise in the SARLAC pit..
I own a comic where he actually escapes.. and travels on his own from there..
I'd rather see a film after Return of the Jedi
