"Does this place have a trash compactor?"
"Yeah."
While talking with
People at Saturday's red carpet for the 2016 SAG Awards, Gwendoline Christie revealed that she will return for the next
Star Wars film.
"I will be in the next Star Wars movie. I think that's an exclusive, actually." She then told how it is an honor to be a part of the franchise.
"I was very overexcited. I made no secret of the fact that I really campaigned for the part for a long time. And then I was delighted when J.J. Abrams wanted to have me in the film and then wanted to cast me in this role that had originally been designed for a man."
The last time we laid eyes on Captain Phasma in the film, she was captured by Finn, Han Solo, and Chewbacca, as they disabled the Starkiller base's defenses. She was eventually thrown in the trash and her character's future was up in the air, until today. Even though the fan-favorite stormtrooper TR-8R stole the spotlight in
The Force Awakens, Christie reveals that it was incredible to play the role of a female stormtrooper.
"I thought the costume was incredibly striking. I also just liked this notion of a female stormtrooper. I felt it encouraged diversity and it was doing something new and it was an interesting bit of casting for women, and I hope that in something that was such a mainstream success it would breed more of those kind of opportunities for other women." She then took the time to praise her armor even more.
"I was struck by how incredible it looked, but also I liked that it was stormtrooper armor. It hadn't been sexualized or feminized in any way. I thought, 'That is interesting. That's very modern.'"
With that said, hopefully Gwendoline's Phasma will have a far bigger role in
Episode VIII. And if she does, Finn and Chewbacca better watch their backs! What do you think? Share your thoughts in the comment section below!
