There are lots of theories surrounding to Rey (Daisy Ridley) in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, particularly when it comes to which other characters she might be related to or have known in the past. Though some may still turn out to be accurate, J.J. Abrams appears to have debunked at least 2 of 'em during his commentary track for the 3D Collector's Edition Blu-ray.

Because of her accelerated proficiency in force-use, it's widely believed that Rey received some type of training in the past, and was possibly even one of Luke's students along with Ben Solo. Well, if Skywalker did encounter the young Jakku native before, it wasn't in the presence of the soon-to-be Kylo Ren. "One of the new relationships that we were focusing on was between Kylo Ren and Rey," Abrams said during a key scene between the pair. "They’ve never met but he's heard of this girl."

Also, towards the end of the movie Rey shares an embrace with General Leia after the death of Han Solo and the destruction of Starkiller Base. Some took this to mean that they had some unknown history, and that maybe Rey was even Leia's daughter (hey, we didn't come up with these!), but it turns out this was actually the first time they'd laid eyes on each other. "This moment, I think, is actually lovely and the idea that these two women who’d never met knew of each other, and they’re both Force-strong and they’re both bound by their loss and their strength," continued the director.

So there you have it: there may be a lot of things still to discover about Rey's past, but neither Kylo Ren nor Leia would seem to be directly involved. The 3D Blu-ray Collector's Edition of Star Wars: The Force Awakens will hit shelves on November 15.
