Darkness was good, script was a little corny and the first act was just Kirk getting demoted, reinstated, diverting the captains chair. But Abrams did a good job.

NO!!! Mr Whedon...don't even suggest J.J. for The Avengers.

I thought Into Darkness was a fantastic film. Brilliant until the last 10 minutes, which I agree was rushed and just strangely put together. Still, I admire them for leaving the main character out of the final action sequence.

Abrams will nail Star Wars

Probably some film student who wanted to demonstrate his or her knowledge of film terminology, thus elevating themselves to an assumed level of critical superiority, which gave them the kind of smug, knowing smile that indicates a festering sour grape, fizzing in the pit of their own ambition. It’s become a sort of communal stick to have a crack at JJ with, mostly by people who didn’t know what the f--k lens flare was, until someone started sneering the term all over their blog. It demonstrates JJ’s supreme talent as a film maker that the main means of knocking him is to magnify a throw away artistic choice, into some sort of hilarious failing. Lens flare is essentially an anomaly caused by light hitting the lens and creating refracted shapes. Because it draws attention to the fact that we are looking at a filmed event, it actually creates a subliminal sense of documentary realism and makes the moment more vital and immediate. In the same way Spielberg spattered his shots with bloody seawater in Saving Private Ryan, JJ suggests that the moment we are in is so real and alive, there just isn’t time to frame out all the light and activity. The irony is by acknowledging the film’s artifice, you are enhancing the reality of the moment. It’s clever and I love it. On set we call it ‘best in show’ and our amazing director of photography, Dan Mindel has a special technique to achieve it. To the detractors, I offer a polite f--k you and suggest you find a new stick to beat us with, if being a huge, boring neggyballs is necessary for your personal happiness.

I don't take sides with the flare issue
because to be honest
I never really took notice or exception.
It's true that it wasn't til it became an internet topic
that I became aware of it but they still don't
take me out of the moment nor distract me

No to JJ directing The Avengers but yes to other choices ;p I'd be okay with someone else directing his Avengers 2 script...

I think Star Wars fans will be more grateful to JJ after he does Star Wars than Star Trek fans did, because after the prequels, the Star Wars fans, are going to look for anything better.

Super 8 was a pretentious, boring movie. A letdown IMO.

Joss has talent. But he and Abrams are both overrated.

Episode VII will suck because Kathleen Kennedy has no balls and got a safe overrated director who makes average decent mimics of better movies. Super 8 is no Close Encounters or E.T. and Star Trek 09 is no Star Wars 77

They should have got a bold hungry filmmaker like Jake Schreier and J.C. Chandor. We could have had a masterpiece.

If Abrams made his movies back in the 80's or early 90's people would be calling his movies classics.

But we seem to live in a time, where people want to nitpick every little thing and not enjoy a movie.

@mcdougalbugle It isn't about being risky or safe, it's about the best pick.

Abrams makes action movies with great characters that respect the previous movies that came before.

If making really good movies and being really well known makes him overrated, then being overrated isn't too bad.

Would you prefer she picked someone like M.Night Shyamalan?

You know the similarities of all the people you just quoted? They never directed, produced, or wrote a blockbuster film.

Sometimes a safe pick is a good thing if you want to make a good movie.

Star Trek 2 was motha[frick]in awesome!!!!

I watched it regular, the 3D, now I'm gonna go see IMAX 3D.

If someone didn't like it, all I can say is that reveals alot about that person.
