New STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS Images; No New Footage At D23

Lucasfilm has officially released a couple of stills from the latest Star Wars: The Force Awakens TV spot in ultra hi-res. We also have an update on the movie's presence at Disney's D23 fan convention this weekend, and those expecting a new trailer will be disappointed...

Unfortunately fans won't be getting a new Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailer - or any new footage at all for that matter - at this weekend's D23 convention. Entertainment Weekly got the bad news straight from J.J. Abrams himself. “It is true, we are showing no footage, behind the scenes or otherwise,” the director revealed. “In the fall, there’ll be a trailer. We’re thrilled to go to D23 and meet the fans, but it’s a tricky thing to try and rush [footage] for a convention or preexisting event that would, of course, be fun to show something at.”

Disappointing for sure, but if it's any consolation we do have these stills from the movie courtesy of Stitch Kingdom. One features some First Order Stormtroopers being blasted to smithereens, and the other is a hi-res look at that new opening shot from the recent international TV spot.

I like how much of Episode VII has been kept under wraps, I want to really be surprised when I experience this film in theaters. Hopefully we'll get some more concrete stuff on Civil War and the MCU though

So it looks like the empire is taking a page out of the rebel playbook and set up shop on Hoth. You can also see the updated AT-AT's over to the right behind all the Tie Fighters.

They might not be releasing new footage, but that doesn't mean there won't be tons of new information dropped at D23. I guarantee there will be tons of new props, set pieces, costumes, etc brought into the convention. For some reason I also think we are going to hear from Andy Serkis there as well....

I'm stoked for The Force Awakens.

I haven't been a real Star Wars fans since the prequels ruined it all, but this movie is bringing me back hard.

Hopefully we get a Civil War trailer description and some MCU announcements.

I'd rather Marvel just do another El Capitan event, though.

How generous of Lucasfilm to go to all this trouble of taking two screengrabs for us.
