No, This MARVEL STUDIOS Movie Director Isn't Being Lined-Up For A STAR WARS Spin-Off

This past weekend, a few different sites picked up on a story (started on IMDb of all places) that one of the filmmakers currently working on a Marvel Studios movie was being lined up for a Star Wars spin-off. Who was the rumoured director? Well, you can find that out after the jump...

Over the weekend, the normally very reliable Jedi-News posted a story in which they claimed to have heard "through the grapevine" that Doctor Strange director Scott Derickson was being lined up for a future Star Wars movie. IMDb was given as a source and the story started doing the rounds on many of the fansites dedicated to the series set in a Galaxy Far, Far Away. In case you saw any of those and got your hopes up, /Film have mentioned in a round-up of Star Wars news today that "I have it on very good authority that’s not the case. Never say never, of course, but he’s concentrating on the Marvel film." This makes a lot of sense, especially as the original source was so questionable and Lucasfilm have already selected directors - J.J. Abrams, Gareth Edwards, Rian Johnson and Josh Trank - for their various Star Wars projects right up until 2018. Derrickson's horror movies have been quite divisive with critics, so it might be worth waiting and seeing how he does with Doctor Strange before booking any more high profile gigs. What do you guys think?

Saw 'Godzilla' again last night.

I realized that there was some HEAVY symbolism in that film.

@GliderMan

Rest easy. There's no way Pheonix is signing a multi-picture deal. Supposedly that's why he turned down Lex Luthor (if he was even actually contacted about it.)

I'm talking more than just that.

@pasto i missed that then, to what are you referring

@GliderMan
1). I agree.
2). He wasn't protecting us. They explained, he's an 'alpha predator' who hunted the MUTOs before mankind. So when they resurfaced, he did as well.
3). Again, I agree. I would've preferred if the film ended where he was our enemy. Adds more to the dynamic of the human/Godzilla relationship.
4). Agreed. The scene where he is in the makeshift interrogation room borderlines 'cringe worthy'.
5). I liked the fight scenes.

Like the scene after Godzilla kills the flying MUTO, he falls out. But before he falls out, Aaron Johnson's character is standing there, and they both exchange a look. I'm not joking, Godzilla actually looks at him for a solid 10 seconds. Then Godzilla is engulfed in smoke.

And the second one I'm talking about is after the battle is won, and Godzilla is presumed "dead". You notice how when Aaron Johnson's character passes out, Godzilla immediately passes out as well?

Symbolism.

Strange is enough for now. I hope his powers translate well on film.

@RebelVulcan - James Gunn + Kooky Star Wars spin-off is a recipe for greatness. I saw your comment before I saw who it actually was. I'm disappointed now

@GliderMan

Godzilla (2014) was a dumbed down Godzilla movie for the kids(a Showa movie to be precise). The movie made no attempts to portray Godzilla as a villain and doesn't acknowledge his role in the destruction of various cites. He was a hero in the film. He never once engages the military, he saves a bus full of kids, stops the bad monsters and then rides off into the sunset whilst being paraded as a "saviour".

Godzilla was neutered and turned into Mothra and made into a guardian/protector. Ken Wantanabe's character was only there to constantly regurgitate that notion and that Godzilla is the "good guy". Godzilla was nothing like he was in the original. Humanity wasn't even held to be accountable for the monsters. Everything was laughably watered down.

If it was just a rumor and the rumor was found to be false before it was reported on, then what's the point in making a whole article for it?

He should be focused on Doctor Strange... not saying he can't line up other jobs. So when he's done with Doctor Strange he can move on too the next project.
