ROGUE ONE Star Diego Luna Addresses Rumors Of An Alternate Ending With Darth Vader Killing The Rebels

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and Andor star Diego Luna has addressed rumours that the movie originally ended with Darth Vader killing each of the Rebels, but was it ever actually shot? Read on for details!

It's no secret that Rogue One: A Star Wars Story went through some significant changes during reshoots, with even a confrontation between Jyn Erso and a TIE Fighter-flying Director Krennic left on the cutting room floor. That wasn't all, however, as the fates of several characters were seemingly changed, but did they all once die at Darth Vader's hands?

Rumours have persisted for years that there's an alternate ending to the movie with the Sith Lord making short work of the Rebel heroes, taking revenge for the Empire after they had successfully transmitted the Death Star plans.

During a recent interview with The Sith Council (via SFFGazette.com), Andor star Diego Luna was asked about the rumour. Admitting that a lot of changes were made to Rogue One during production, the actor debunked these claims by confirming the one thing that always stayed the same was the movie's ending.

"The first time I was asked to sit down with the director, in Los Angeles, I was asked into a restaurant, and the restaurant was empty," Luna recalls. "He was giving his back to the wall with his computer open and he asked me to sit down next to him."

"He started telling me a story and kept saying ‘And then this girl, and then this guy, and then this girl, and then this guy...’ And started showing me drawings and concept art, and then at the end, I was like ‘Why is he phrasing it that way?’ And he goes like ‘I want you to play the guy’. And I go like, 'What?' Then he said, ‘If you want to, now we have to convince everyone else, but I would love to do this with you.’ And I said like ‘Wow, perfect. I would love to.’"

"And the story he pitched me is the one we saw, in terms of beginning and end," the actor concluded. "Many things changed on the way but not the end."

It's disappointing to think this deleted scene isn't sitting somewhere in the bowels of Lucasfilm waiting to be released, but we really can't fault the ending we got back in 2016. Rogue One remains one of the best Star Wars movies released during this Disney era, and both Cassian and Vader's respective stories have been touched on again elsewhere since then.

What did you guys think about Rogue One's explosive conclusion? Let us know in the comments section below.

And yet another click bait article where Josh asks a question in the headline and the answer in the article is “no”.

@natebest and I think I speak for many others here, but can you do something about these types of articles. We like to read news and cool information about movies. We don’t want to be tricked into reading an article only for the article to contain no information.
Josh is notorious for this.
The basic conclusion that many of us now must draw is that is Josh poses a question, or a scenario in the headline the vast majority of the time the answer will be “no” or the scenario will wind up being nothing as proposed.
Therefore we shouldn’t bother reading the article.

Articles of these kids damage the credibility of the site

@TyrantBossMedia - Did we read the same post? The headline and summary clearly state what the post is about (the rumor about alternate endings)... and it includes Diego Luna response to the rumor saying, basically, "no, there were no other endings." Did I miss something?

And again, CBM and all of its sister sites are "user-generated". There's always room for fresh voices if anyone cares to dip their toes into the writing process: You can learn more about it here:

@NateBest - I know you work off of the clicks to get ad dollars Nate: I totally get it, but Rumor or not Josh often writes articles like this posing a question only to have the answer or verification of the rumor be “no”.

And since you mentioned “user contributions” many of us years ago used to try to contribute articles.
But then our articles would suddenly disappear only to have their topics take by Josh who would say, “oh, I already had that article in my queue”.
He did this so often that we deduced that he was either prescient or was taking out ideas and rewriting them to create his own content.
That’s is why so many of us stopped contributing.

So I don’t see how any user generated article would dispel a rumor or contradict something like Josh had written since the article would either be removed and claimed by Josh or relegated to obscurity elsewhere on the site so nobody sees it.

I know you were just trying to shine me off, but this is a sincere issue with the way Josh often poses his articles. As I said I imagine you are okay with it because it creates engagements which makes you ad revenue,

But thanks for responding.

@TyrantBossMedia - I'm not sure what "shining off" is, but I think you have me confused with someone else... I posed a legitimate question, as well as provided a link to how things work regarding user posts that should alleviate any of the concerns previous contributors had (there is no *removing* by other contributors, etc.).

Does he pose a question/idea in the headline? Yes.
Does he answer said question/idea that was posed in the headline? Yes.

Again, I don't see the issue with this post that you're referring to. Again, maybe I missed something, but I have no idea what it is after reviewing this post multiple times... If you would care to share specifics, I'm all ears.

@NateBest - Nate, I made my point very clear. He posed a question, and the answer was "no", and as I have said repeatedly, this is a tactic that he takes to generate clicks.

Like I said, I get it. You need the clicks to justify ad revenue, but He REPEATEDLY asks questions in headlines that end up with an answer of "No" in the actual article, or that offer a nothing response.

Example: Michael Keaton asked if he knows anything about reprising the role of Batman, or Here is what Michael Keaton said about reprising the role of Batman.

Then after reading the article the answer was "no"
or what he said about reprising the role was basically "I don't know" which is nothing.

That is disingenuous, click bait writing. But you got your result. However it is just toying with the loyal visitors to this site who have come here for, in some cases almost 10 years.
It's a legitimate issue, but as I said, you are obviously okay with it.

That tells me all I need to know.

@TyrantBossMedia - I must have misread your first comment because I thought you meant "no", as in "no it wasn't answered."

That being said, it sounds like you're saying users should only post/report on something if the answer is "Yes"?

I don't see the issue in stating a question and answering it, regardless of if it's "yes", "no", "maybe", or "I don't know"... They may not be answers that I like, but they're answers all the same.

Now something that *doesn't* add to the conversation or topic I would have an issue with, but I don't see that is the case with this particular post.

TyrantBossMedia - 12/23/2022, 7:12 PM
@NateBest - If sometimes it was “yes” or the interviewee actually confirmed something then it would be okay but more often than not he poses the question in the headline and it’s usually “no” in the body of the article.

I am pointing out that it’s a common issue with Josh and I’m not the only one who has pointed this out,

I am pretty sure there were a lot of ideas thrown in editing that possibly gave an ending where the two survive. Not in the first drafts or concept stage, but I am pretty sure an exec (Kennedy) saw the dallies and asked for an edit where they both survive to see how it tests...and it backfired.

Don't think Luna would know of such change since the change wasn't mandated.

@HWestRE420 - For as much as everyone wants to blame Kennedy, she's still in charge of the studio and is still behind the Mandalorian and Andor. I'm pretty sure it was revealed recently that all Star Wars film scripts had to go by Iger, who demanded some pretty massive changes. Bob Iger controlled Star Wars a lot closer than he did Marvel, and even refused to let George Lucas have any creative input over the sequels.

I wish I could like Rogue One but yeah the entire middle arc of the story seems absolutely ravaged and lacks sense. You have one of the best dog fights in Star Wars, but you have a movie that felt like someone dropped a hamburger on the floor, and the only pieces left pristine were the buns.
