RUMOR MILL: Disney+ Has Discussed A Number Of SOLO: A STAR WARS STORY Spinoff TV Shows

Fans remain as desperate as ever to #MakeSolo2Happen, and a new rumour doing the rounds claims Disney has considered a number of spinoffs based on characters from the movie for their streaming service...

In "Rumor Mill," we share the hard to buy rumours that don't come from reliable sources like the trades, but are still more believable (just) than what you might find on Reddit.

According to Cinelinx's Jordan Maison, he's heard rumblings that at least "a couple" of Disney+ TV shows spinning out of the events of Solo: A Star Wars Story could be in the very early stages of development for the streaming service. Maison has shared a lot of reliable information in the past, so this is definitely a rumour worth taking note of.

As he mentions, it's possible these never got past the "idea stage," and he's unable to share any further details on which characters these might have/will focus on.

We can, of course, take some guesses. Qi'ra seems like an obvious choice seeing as her storyline ended on something of a cliffhanger, and that would go some way in filling in the final gaps in Maul's history. Chewbacca could also be fun, though Donald Glover's Lando Calrissian receiving the spotlight in his own solo series honestly seems the most likely show for Disney+.

Unfortunately, with no Disney+ this year, it's unlikely we'll learn of Lucasfilm's future Star Wars plans for a while, but this is definitely something that's going to get #MakeSolo2Happen fans talking.

I'm not sure about a spin-off of an anthology movie, but a show with a new central character that meets established characters sounds much more interesting to me

This movie was so lame, and bombed hard, why continue it with expensive streaming shows

@tmp3 - I thought it was fairly entertaining.

@Gmoney84 - Much better than the sequel trilogy.

And I hated the idea of a Solo prequel movie.

@tmp3 - No, it was not lame and the only reason why it didn't do as well as it could of was because of lame reviews.

@tmp3 - A big reason it bombed is because the last SW film in theatres before Solo was [frick]ing boring and made no sense.

Solo gets a lot of flack, mostly from its critical & commercial situation. But I enjoyed the hell out of it, not gonna lie.

@GothamSon - It was a fun ride that while unnecessary, felt like its own thing. I like the idea of a Star Wars heist movie. And no I consider Rogue One more of an espionage film.

@RevanIsMyMan - I feel that it would have been a straight-up heist movie, if it wasn't for Disney cramming in as many call-backs and fan service as they could. I enjoyed it for what it was, but would have preferred a darker toned miniseries on Disney+

@GothamSon - From what I understand that wasn't Disney that was Lawrence Kasdan himself.

I had to ask my friend if people in the star wars community actually like alden erinchreich as Solo, like if this is like Ewan as obi wan where the fan base has been clammoring for new material.

He basically said alden was fine, but that the fan base isn't as excited for alden over ewan

@DannRamm113 - I rank Solo over the ST and PT.

I would FAR rather see a show about Han and Chewie’s further smuggling adventures, getting into scrapes with Jabba etc than a McGregor Obi Wan show. But then I know that people are super excited so I’m glad for them their getting that, I just hope it makes sense in the timeline. (Which I don’t really see how it can without being incredibly grounded and small scale.)

@Sixesandsevens - I think Solo would have worked better as a series. I thought Alden Erinreich was really good as Han. Yeah his voice wasn't deep like Fords, but you know what? No one bitched about James McAvoy taking over as Xavier.

@RevanIsMyMan - no one bitched about McAvoy as Xavier because the character already existed in various comic book forms for decades. Harrison Ford IS Han Solo, and Han Solo IS Harrison Ford. There was no comic book version beforehand.

FWIW I'd heard that a couple of these Disney Plus shows delve into the seedy underworld and Jabba's illegal sex trade of Twi'lek and Wookies.

Am I doing it right? I mean if they don't need to name sources neither do I.

Pretty much hated Solo, but I do love L3-37.

Great performer, great design, and an interesting core concept (if a dumb name). They bungled the overall subplot of a robot rebellion quite badly, I think, but a "Droids" series has been a perennial go-to for the franchise, and they could do worse than this as a core concept.

Solo was good. Besides the sequel trilogy, most of Disney's star wars content has been pretty stellar. I know it's unfortunate that the sequels did not live up to expectations but maybe they can just build on what's working and eventually use that to improve and retcon the sequels.

I would love to see a Han vs Boba miniseries. This might be the show where you could bring back Mace Windu for some kind of role and explore the dynamic with Mace and Boba as well as giving some history to Han and Boba's rivalry. Maybe have Han help Mace Windu escape Boba Fett only for Windu to run into Vader or something. The possibilities are endless.

They should call it Lando and Han. In the show, we pretty much start where the film leaves off. Han and Chewie head to Tatooine to meet Jabba. Qi'ra heads to meet up with Darth Maul. We can get a cameo of Ewan as Kenobi somewhere in the series. Han meets Greedo and Fett for the first time. Han starts smuggling for Jabba the Hutt. In the following seasons you can have Han Solo take Chewie home to Kashyyyk to be with his family, making the holiday special canon, because they already know him, lol.

I'm all for more Maul stories, he's a boss. But putting him in Solo just felt off: Han's a scoundrel, dodging gangsters and smuggling spice. He doesn't seem the type to grapple with Sith lords, adding Maul to his backstory was a strange choice.

Instead, I'd pay big money for a live-action adaptation of the Dark Horse Darth Maul story, where Maul annihilates an entire Black Sun castle.
