RUMOR: OBI-WAN KENOBI Trilogy In The Works Starring Ewan McGregor...And 'Darth Maul'?!

This rumour isn't really anything new, but another site has weighed in on previous reports that a trilogy of Obi-Wan Kenobi movies is in the works, including Ewan McGregor's involvement, and which other characters might appear. We've got two words for you: Darth Maul! Check it out...

Take this with a huge pinch of salt for the time being, but Schmoes Know are reporting that Disney is in talks with Ewan McGregor to return as Obi Wan Kenobi in what might be a trilogy of Star Wars Anthology movies.  Apparently, they're talking to him "not to be a force ghost, but for a post-Episode III Kenobi," and their source adds that they do indeed want a series focusing on him.

It's not clear what direction these would take, but they add that "the film (or films) would focus on Obi-Wan’s adventures between the two trilogies as he watches over a maturing Luke Skywalker. The film(s) would be standalone adventure(s), with the possibility of characters like Owen Lars and Darth Maul appearing." A rematch between Obi-Wan and Darth Maul would obviously be quite something to see on the big screen, and it's fair to say that McGregor was one of the only good things about the Star Wars prequels, so it's hard to complain about this idea! Thoughts?

Stupid. That'll just make everything from A New Hope even more questionable (e.g., How does he not remember R2 and 3P0, etc.).

Ewan was the best part of the prequels. I love his obi-Wan. I doubt they do this though. We have the prequels and the clone wars series, for Obi-Wan's story.

There ought to be some very bad blood between these two, considering Darth Maul killed Kenobi's master (Qui Gon Ginn) and Kenobi cut off Darth Maul's legs. Darth Maul is an awesome villain. I'd be up for this.

Damn, imagine a Maul vs. Ewan!Kenobi rematch. That would be insane.
I doubt this'll happen, though.

Honestly, I don't particularly care to see more Obi-Wan, Yoda, Vader or more to the point original trilogy-centric movies. It is a huge Universe filled with numerous characters that would be interesting and expand on what has already been done.

I would love LOVE to see a movie where Obi-Wan has lost hope and goes on a very small scale adventure to regain it.

Think Mad Max 2 with Obi-Wan in the role of Max. A small village or whatnot is threatened by some faction of the empire. Obi-Wan is reluctant to help as he's starting to lose hope when some catalyst gets him to interfere and be a hero for these people. Then, at the end, he disappears realizing that there is still hope and that hope requires him to remain undetectable until Luke is ready.

The original fight between Maul and Obi-wan was epic. If this new trilogy will be a new series where the old prequels are null and void, count me in. If they are pretending that the new prequels were good and still exist, count me out. That being said, who can so no to star wars? Quite possibly the coolest idea for a film to date

Here's the only problem I would have.

Maul had his revenge on Obi-Wan in Clone Wars.

Not only did he have his revenge but its one of if not the best story arc of the whole Clone Wars series.

So what would be Maul's motivation for going after Kenobi now that his motive isn't revenge on him?

I'm really interested in seeing this. Obi Wan was always my favorite character. That being said I doubt this is true.

@Dingbat

That just seems disappointing. After all that happened in Clone Wars (which was my favorite part of the show) I would feel Maul needs a little more of a motive.

Thinking more and more, what if Maul wasn't on the hunt for Kenobi. He wants to draw him out but he wants to make him suffer especially how Sidus ended things with Maul in Clone Wars.

Maul doesn't hunt Kenobi, but hunts Luke.

Kill Kenobi's little glimpse of hope for the galaxy.

It would certainly be a twist.

Disney confirmed Clone Wars is canon.

KOTR is a grey spot since no one knows but it's not like it couldn't simply be added.

Yeah, a trilogy seems excessive. I'd settle for just one.
SauronsBANE
SauronsBANE - 6/2/2015, 8:56 PM
I think the new main trilogy will be pretty great, but all the spin-offs (with the exception of Rogue One) will be shit. It'd be cool if they decided to branch out with the "Anthology Films" and actually broaden the universe a bit instead of always falling back on old, fan-favorite, safe choices...but with Disney in charge, I'm not sure I see that happening. What a waste.
BlackIceJoe
BlackIceJoe - 6/2/2015, 8:58 PM
I'm not sure if this is a good idea or bad. I'd hope it'd be good, but it could just as easily be bad. But I still would like to see it. I would be nice to see what Obi did all those years on the planet.
