Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker rubbed fans up the wrong way for a lot of different reasons, but for many, it was the "Rey Skywalker" line that proved to be particularly problematic. For some, the moment just felt wrong when Rey is technically Emperor Palpatine's grandaughter, while others simply believed it was a cheesy reveal, and a tad too on the nose.
During a recent interview with Josh Horowitz to discuss Chaos Walking, Ridley was asked about the scene, and appeared to agree that it doesn't work as well as Lucasfilm might have hoped.
"Technically it should be Rey Palpatine," the actress acknowledged. "But I was mentored by Skywalker even though he was kind of a dick to me. So yeah, Rey Skywalker. That's me."
When you stop and think about it, Rey naming herself after a mentor who didn't really do a whole lot for her is nonsensical, and it's not like she was naming herself after Ben Solo or Leia Organa (two far more important figures in her life, particularly during the final chapter of the Skywalker Saga).
With no Skywalkers left alive, this felt a lot like Lucasfilm trying a little too hard to keep the name alive so it can potentially be revisited in future stories
Regardless, even Ridley seems to realise it was a silly moment, but is likely hoping to move on to different projects now. We'll actually have some exclusive comments of our own to share with you from the actress soon, but not until Chaos Walking is released in the UK (so stay tuned ).
