After No Time to Die, Daniel Craig is done playing James Bond. It remains to be seen whether the actor will board another big franchise, but he's already got a little bit of history with Star Wars!
In 2015's Star Wars: The Force Awakens, the actor made a brief cameo role as a Stormtrooper. While we never got to see his face, Craig's voice could be heard as he interrogated Rey and ultimately fell victim to her Jedi mind tricks. It was a fun moment for those that recognised who was beneath the helmet, and the former 007 has now opened up on his trip to a Galaxy Far, Far Away.
"That’s the perk that opens a few doors, because I don’t think I could’ve if I hadn’t have been James Bond," he told BBC Radio 1 with a laugh during a recent interview. "Having the chutzpah to do that is because I’m James Bond. I wouldn’t have done that any other way. But I asked the second A.D. on Star Wars - who’s our second A.D. - a lovely guy called Ben Dixon. I said, ‘Ben, come on. Can we get me in as a stormtrooper?’ He went ahead and asked J.J. [Abrams]."
Craig admitted that he was surprised it ever happened, and he certainly never expected a full scene!
"I just thought I was going to stand in the back holding a gun," he confessed. "I would have been happy with that, but yet he gave me a scene."
There were rumblings about Craig showing up in The Force Awakens before it was released, but he threw people off the scent in interviews, and it ended up being a genuine surprise for moviegoers. The tradition of putting big name actors in Stormtrooper costumes would continue throughout the rest of the franchise, though Tom Hardy's scene in The Last Jedi ended up on the cutting room floor.
As for Craig, we know he's been busy working on a sequel to Knives Out, but whether he'd be open to joining the Marvel or DC Universes obviously remains to be seen for the time being.
