Yes. Fans of the lightsabre-wielding, force-heavy Star Wars saga can now state they are using official words when talking about the Jedi, Padawans or even a Mind Trick. The Oxford English Dictionary has added these words to its repertoire: Jedi, Mind Trick, Padawan and Lightsabre.

The Star Wars universe has even more words out there that could be added to the OED as well. The official Star Wars Twitter account even has a suggestion. "Nerf-herder". How about that? Having lingo added to a dictionary is a huge step for any franchise, fans of Star Wars have a great social media post to share with their friends today.

The OED defines Jedi as
“In the fictional universe of the Star Wars films: a member of an order of heroic, skilled warrior monks who are able to harness the mystical power of the Force.” Padawan is defined as In the fictional universe of the Star Wars films: an apprentice Jedi (see Jedi n.). Also (often humorously) in extended and allusive use: a youthful…

Here is Mind Trick's official definition (a) a trick played by the mind; a delusion or illusion; (b) an act of manipulating someone psychologically, esp. to gain an advantage; see also Jedi… Now for the most popular weapon in the Star Wars universe. Lightsabre - In the fictional universe of the Star Wars films: a weapon resembling a sword, but having a destructive beam of light in place of a blade.

What do you think about an official dictionary adding movie lingo? Is there a word that you would like to see or maybe a a different cinematic universe add their own lingo? Let us know in the comments!

My generation defined bodacious as "Excellent, admirable, or attractive," for the dictionary, so I don't feel I'm in any position to really judge new words or definitions.
