STAR WARS: John Boyega Says Colin Trevorrow's Vision For Finn In EPISODE IX "Would Have Been Dope"

Leaked concept art for Colin Trevorrow's Star Wars: Duel of the Fates revealed a much bigger and better role for Finn in his version of Episode IX, and actor John Boyega has now weighed in on that...

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker received a mostly negative response from fans and critics alike, and when a slew of concept art from Colin Trevorrow's Episode IX - titled Duel of the Fates - surfaced online, most agreed that looked like a better movie. For starters, it was set to bring back Darth Vader (in a vision), while Kylo Ren would have been the big bad in place of a returning Emperor Palpatine.

As for Finn, he was set to lead a rebellion on Coruscant, assembling former Stormtroopers who had been hiding out in the Jedi Temple to fight back against the First/Final Order.

In a recent interview with Yahoo Movies, actor John Boyega was asked about the concept art showing original plans for Finn, and it turns out he's a big fan.

"I think Colin Trevorrow was going to tell that story," he acknowledged. "That image of Finn with the blue flag, and you have the AT-ATs lined up with tribal marks, and the stormtroopers take off their helmets. That would have been sick! That would have been dope, man, hands down."

Daisy Ridley has admitted that she struggled to find work after playing Rey, while neither Boyega nor Oscar Isaac have been overly complimentary about how things wrapped up for their characters. So, would the British actor head back to a Galaxy Far, Far Away as Finn in the not too distant future?

"I’m a Mandalorian fan, so Lucasfilm is doing very well with the TV shows," he told the site, laughing. "An animated show would be dope! We could do it from home."

Do you wish we'd seen Duel of the Fates instead of The Rise of Skywalker?

@Imfunnyhow - Finn’s character arc in duel of the fates is genuinely awesome. He finally would have something to do. Scenes like one below would really flesh out the character and help define his character.

Its a movie making travesty that we never got a scene with the OGs at least once.

A complete wasted opportunity

@Imfunnyhow - Seriously none of those characters were properly used.

Like seriously they cut out Lando's story resolution but kept the set up.

For sure would have been better, but good.......eh could have gone either way, Trevorrow kind of has the same problems as Abbrams.

Seriously should have gotten 1 director to do the sequel trilogy or come up with a plan and get directors willing to stick with it, not this whole, letting directors do whatever they want.

George Lucas must regret putting Kennedy in charge.

This sequel trilogy felt less and less like Star Wars after each subsequent movie and I know exactly why!

Could have introduced some interesting characters instead of the hodgepodge rotation of forgettable plot device individuals that we got, hopping in and out between movies like this wasn’t some interwoven trilogy. Looking at you Snoke and Benicio del toro and general Holdo and Keri Russell and Palpatine and stormtrooper lady randomly introduced at the last minute and Broom boy). All of these randos took time away from who we wanted to see, the OGs. My biggest gripe with these movies! Hard to be invested in the 3 mains when they have little connection to each other and are just meeting a rotation of supporting characters that change each movie.

At least the prequel trilogy had a consistent group of main players who didn’t just up and vanish throughout the story that they wanted to tell. Even jar jar had a purpose despite his limited role in AOTC and ROTS.

@JFerguson - The key was having characters with goals that drove them. It couldn't be like a Marvel movie where a new threat just pops up. Or like Bourne movies with a hero running around not knowing who they are.

Star Wars 1-6 were really about the rise of Hitler and WW2. Star Wars 7-9 needed to keep being a parallel to our own history.

Good triumphs over evil, then becomes evil itself. A baby boom creates a spoiled, younger generation that hates the old generation and hates old religions and the republic. A cold war. The Vietnam war. Finally, the society devolves into our society now, a society that wants to kill freedom by embracing socialism.

Of course, Hollywood would never tell that story. But it was the natural continuation of events that were modelled after the rise of Hitler and the world war he caused.

1.Should have just let Kylo be a villain.
Seriously when they pander to the twitter crowd, stuff always go to shit. Don't give people what they want, give them what they need.

2.Should have ditched both the Sith and the Jedi, create something new.
Seemed like that's how they were going in episode 8 and was one idea that had potential.

3.Decide who Rey is or isn't related to ahead of time.
Seriously they kept going back and forth.

I love The Last Jedi. Best film in the saga alongside TESB and ROTS to me. But TROS? Good god..

Collin’s draft (which again, is an EARLY draft from before Rogue One even came out) was infinitely better. With a little more work, I truly believe it would have been great.

How self serving of him. Saying IX would've been better if he had more screen time.

Characters with no purpose suck. Like Fast And Furious characters they might get to have little moments but without something strong driving them forward, they are disposable, worthless, uninteresting.

No character in VII-IX had purpose, drive, strong goals at their core. Finn was just hitting beats many other characters have hit. Same for Poe. Rey was just walking around on easy mode. Kylo's goal was to be #VaderToo. Snoke was a Palpatine Tribute Artist. Han, Leia, Luke were empty shells with no life left in them.

There wasn't a single bright spot in any of the movies. And more of Finn, would've been more of shit!

Seriously tho even after The Last Jedi they could have taken things into a more interesting direction with the story and the characters
