STAR WARS Set Images Reveal Ralph McQuarrie Inspired C3PO & Darth Vader Suit Designs

We've all seen the original McQuarrie concept designs for Star Wars: A New Hope but before their looks were altered did you know they actually made it to costume test phase? Check out snaps of Anthony Daniels as a fairly different looking C3PO, and a look at the Vader outfit too..

The following costumes aren't exactly the same as the original McQuarrie designs (C3PO in particular looked a lot more like the android from Metropolis), but you can certainly see the inspiration there. Do you think Lucas and co. should have stuck more closely to the designs below, or are you glad they made the alterations they did?

That Vader design looks like Bruce Timm could have designed it for a Star Wars animated show.

Episode 7 should use unused Ralph Mcquarrie art! Just look at this

I read somewhere that the Vader suit was made by a Lucasfilm employee for a halloween costume. It was never for the movie.

Wow. These photos are awesome. Nice topic. Of course the film's final designs after some tweaking were better goes without saying, but you asked. That Vader Suit is a very cool photo because it reminds me of a drawing of a concept for Vader that the suit in the photo looked exactly like.

@itCameFromPLanetEarth

You're making it as if the final design was crap or something. Have some perspective.
