It's been a while since we've seen anything new from Star Wars: The Last Jedi but with a new trailer on the horizon, Disney and Lucasfilm are finally pulling back the curtain on what's to come in the highly anticipated sequel. That came via a lengthy new feature in the latest issue of Entertainment Weekly and they've debuted both a plethora of fresh images and long overdue story details about the movie.

What you'll find here then is an in-depth look at all of those. As well as inspecting those latest stills, we've rounded up all the biggest story intel to try and figure out what's to come in The Last Jedi and also picked out the most revealing quotes from the likes of Rian Johnson, Mark Hamill, Daisy Ridley, and John Boyega. Needless to say, some very juicy potential spoilers will follow from this point...

10. Why Luke Skywalker Believed Kylo Ren Was "The Chosen One"

In Star Wars: The Force Awakens, we learned that Ben Solo turned to the Dark Side and murdered his fellow students at Luke Skywalker's Jedi Academy alongside the Knights of Ren. Why, though, would such an event send Luke into exile? "[Luke] made a huge mistake in thinking that his nephew was the chosen one, so he invested everything he had in Kylo, much like Obi-Wan did with my character," Mark Hamill explains.

"And he is betrayed, with tragic consequences. Luke feels responsible for that. That’s the primary obstacle he has to rejoining the world and his place in the Jedi hierarchy, you know? It’s that guilt, that feeling that it’s his fault, that he didn’t detect the darkness in him until it was too late." Director Rian Johnson promises that The Last Jedi is going to answer why Luke has isolated himself from the Galaxy when his friends and family need him and you have to wonder if it's possible that he's trying to contain his own impulses to turn to the Dark Side.

10 Major New Story Details You NEED To Know

You don't need to know anything to see a film.

All you need to know about The Last Jedi is to rewatch the Original Trilogy and Force Awakens before watching Last Jedi to understand the characters and story so far.

But you don't NEED to know anything before seeing a film.

I like the idea of smokes backstory remaining a mystery. I don't need to know every detail of his past life. Just the important stuff like what his main goal is and how the first order was created.

@JohnGrayson - smoke is a mystery but he's pretty much a blend of reptile and scorpion. All you need to know really

I think Finn is my favorite character in this new trilogy, he felt the most genuine, he failed, messed up, but tried his best, it would've been cooler to have a more epic climax to his character since he earned it by the end, hopefully they let him grow into something else, other than "resistance soldier #2".

Finn better not be lame in this movie

I feel like SW has lost its excitement factor since 2015...I think there's a little too much overload to really get pumped about any one thing. When TFA was coming out, it was just TFA and nothing else really. There was no stigma yet. Nobody had any opinions yet... I miss that time.
Also I'm not comparing hype factors between TFA, which was a major comeback for the franchise, to TLJ. Totally different scenarios. I just mean the overall excitement for all things SW. It's very calm. Maybe I just need a new trailer already. Probably. Most likely.

I am not really intrigued to watch anymore SW movies..........Honestly the prequels were awesome because we got to see where Darth Vader came from etc...........even if the movies were not that great.

To me the movies ended with Return Of The Jedi........TFA was just a boring a mashup of the original trilogy. Now granted I will go see this movie but I already have a strong feeling how this is going to all play out.

LOL, she knew Han for five minutes, not long enough to see him as a father. She knows nothing about the Force. She's never touched a lightsaber before. She thought Luke was a myth, yet she can pull a mind trick out of the air.. and beat up a Dark Jedi without any training. And now apparently the same chick that was a dumpster diver is going to convince Luke Skywalker to do what he should have been doing anyway..? Seriously Disney, get it together cause that makes NO sense..
