Had Colin Trevorrow directed the final Star Wars movie in the "Skywalker Saga," we'd have seen Kylo Ren fully embrace his villainous nature as the First Order's Supreme Leader. In J.J. Abrams' The Rise of Skywalker, Ben Solo was ultimately redeemed, but a scene was shot which saw him torture his father's best friend, Chewbacca.
It was cut, and has never been shared by Lucasfilm, a shame seeing as the two characters never really crossed paths to a significant degree in this sequel trilogy.
Chewbacca actor Joonas Suotamo has shed some light on that in his new autobiography, revealing that co-star Adam Driver went to some dark places to convincingly portray Ren in these moments. It sounds a lot like this was just too brutal for the otherwise quite breezy Episode IX, and he quite rightly points out that scenes like this would have made Ben's redemption harder to buy into.
It's a shame this hasn't been released as a deleted scene, but do Star Wars fans really want to see Chewbacca being tortured? Probably not, but it can't be worse than the rest of the movie, right?
