STAR WARS: THE RISE OF SKYWALKER - Chewbacca Actor Joonas Suotamo Reveals Details On Cut Torture Scene

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker left a lot on the cutting room floor, including a scene which saw Kylo Ren torture his father's best friend, Chewbacca. Now, actor Joonas Suotamo has elaborated on that...

Had Colin Trevorrow directed the final Star Wars movie in the "Skywalker Saga," we'd have seen Kylo Ren fully embrace his villainous nature as the First Order's Supreme Leader. In J.J. Abrams' The Rise of Skywalker, Ben Solo was ultimately redeemed, but a scene was shot which saw him torture his father's best friend, Chewbacca.

It was cut, and has never been shared by Lucasfilm, a shame seeing as the two characters never really crossed paths to a significant degree in this sequel trilogy.

Chewbacca actor Joonas Suotamo has shed some light on that in his new autobiography, revealing that co-star Adam Driver went to some dark places to convincingly portray Ren in these moments. It sounds a lot like this was just too brutal for the otherwise quite breezy Episode IX, and he quite rightly points out that scenes like this would have made Ben's redemption harder to buy into.

It's a shame this hasn't been released as a deleted scene, but do Star Wars fans really want to see Chewbacca being tortured? Probably not, but it can't be worse than the rest of the movie, right?

Check out Suotamo's comments in full below:

Feel like it was a missed opportunity to not have a more meaningful interaction between Chewie and Kylo. Think I even saw a webcomic to that effect.

The whole seemingly killing of Chewy was so unnecessary. Could've just had Ben capture Chewy with Rey knowing. And obviously should've kept this scene

This trilogy is s***

That being said, in my opinion, the sequel trilogy should have ended with Finn and co. hijacking a Death Star Destroyer and blowing up Exegol. Fitting ending for the Emperor (it rhymes!).

Kylo turns back to the light and sacrifices himself to keep the Emperor at bay while Rey can fly away and Finn can destroy Exegol. Right before it is destroyed, force ghost Leia arrives and force transports Kylo away (Kylo did not plan this).

We don’t learn he survived until he (instead of the random old woman) confronts Rey on Tatooine. With the galaxy believing he is dead, he is free to travel around the galaxy and hunt down any remaining Sith to “finish what his grandfather started”.

Rey says “may the force be with you”. As Kylo says then says, “may the force be with you.....Rey Skywalker.” as we then see that Rey is now suddenly pregnant just like Shmi. Film ends with Rey and BB-8 staring at the suns and at Kylo wandering into the desert.

This ending sucks too but so does the whole sequel trilogy.

Don't torture Chewbacca. You tortured the audience enough by making us sit through it.

Yeah, the more time that passes the more I dislike TST... Disney absolutely blew it. With that said, I enjoyed TLJ and wish we would’ve gotten one persons divide instead of 2 completely different directors. I blame JJ and Kasden or whoever had final say on the direction they took with episode 7 and basically did a reboot or episode 4. Oh well, is what it is
