Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker revealed that the villainous General Hux had been feeding the Resistance intel in a bid to usurp Supreme Leader Kylo Ren, and that ended with him being killed by General Pryde. It was a strange and underwhelming end for the character, and one that didn't receive a particularly positive response from fans.
During a recent interview with Indie Wire, actor Domhnall Gleeson admitted that he was hoping Hux would have a larger role in the proceedings (honestly, he probably should have had the part given to Richard E. Grant), but is happy his character's demise struck a chord with moviegoers.
"It would’ve been nice to stick around a little bit longer, for sure," he admitted. "It would’ve been nice to see the spy thing play out a little bit, but J.J. [Abrams] knows what he’s doing, and I heard a kind of gasp in the cinema when it happened, so I guess he was right."
In Colin Trevorrow's version of Episode IX - Duel of the Fates - the plan was for Hux to commit seppuku with a lightsaber after it became clear the First Order were going to lose to the Resistance.
The villain's final fate was just one of many controversial decisions made by Abrams and screenwriter Chris Terrio in The Rise of Skywalker, and one which will ensure the endless debates about the film don't end any time soon!
What did you guys think about Hux's demise?
