Terminator film racked up $440.5 million worldwide (the second highest grossing film of the franchise), the film was panned by critics and many fans, mainly for its lack of depth.
Terminator: Genisys (which starred Jai Courtney, Emila Clarke, and Arnold Schwarzenegger) was allegedly supposed to start a new trilogy, however, after the film underperformed, those plans were sidelined.
According to a new report by
The Wrap, the ‘Genisys’ sequel, billed as “Terminator 3,” has been removed from Paramount’s release schedule. The film was originally set to hit the big screen on June 29, 2018, which would have pitted it against Fox/Marvel’s untitled 2018 project.
Paramount hasn’t released an official statement as of yet, however, their upcoming CinemaCon panel should shine light on the franchise's future, while presumably providing information about James Cameron and Tim Miller's
2019 reboot.
