Earlier today Robbie and Stephen Amell took to Facebook to discuss and announce some details regarding their crowdfunded feature film
CODE 8.
For those unaware, last year in March the Amell's began an Indiegogo campaign for a dystopian sci-fi film in which 4% of the world's population has gained super powers. Initially setting their top goal for a modest $250,000, the campaign was so successful it ended up raising more than 4 times that amount, finishing up at over 1 million. The campaign was also accompanied by this short film starring Robbie Amell (
Arq), Aaron Abrams (
Blindspot), Sung Kang (
Fast and Furious) and featuring the voice of Stephen Amell (
Arrow).
Much of their
Facebook live video is dedicated to discussing merchandise from their Indiegogo perks, but the cousins do reveal that production on the feature film will begin on May 29th of this year. They also state that their production timeline is only one month behind schedule, something they admit is quite a feat particularly when dealing with a feature film. In the past the two have stated that Stephen will have a much larger role in the feature film than the short, and in this announcement they confirm he is booked for the month of June (during
Arrow's offseason).
Stephen also says that as he will begin filming for
CODE 8 after his first 6 weeks off since 2014, "I'm gonna grow a beard, I am going to let myself go." He jokes that he will work himself back into shape over the course of the production.
And that's about it. Not a lot of information but for fans of the Amell's and the short, it is exciting to hear that progress is being made and that production will soon be underway.
CODE 8 is currently slated for a 2018 release.
